Water and Exercize

Hello! I am well aware of the recommendation about consuming at least 8 cups of water per day and, although there is much controversy about whether this is really necessary, I drink at least this much daily. The question that occurred to me today is the impact of exercise. Is the recommended 8 cups in addition to the water we drink while working out? My sense is that what we drink during exercise is basically just replacing what we are losing from sweat. So should that count toward the 8 cups? I would think not... Your thoughts?
