Been going to the gym with roomie since January 5x week for 45-50 mins a session.

We are both down 20lbs+.

Our workout consist of elliptical and treadmill and some weights. End of Aprilish we started doing a weightlifting class 2x week for 45 mins. I LOVE the class, i get such a rush and feel like I generally did a good workout.

Now, we have some problems:
  • I have tennis elbow in both elbows since last July, have been doing treatment for it and it had gotten better but I over did it in a class and lifted too much, 20lbs, and aggravated it.
  • Roomie has torn ligaments in her arms, she is currently doing testing with a surgeon to get surgery, surgeon thinks its from how she is basically built. not from a fall or anything. She cannot rotate her wrists/arms at all really and has no grip.

Tomorrow we have personal trainer session from the gym (free session). We priced out PT and it's pretty expensive I guess... $54/session.

What are some workouts we could do to help us? My Physio has me doing certain lifts and it helps with my elbows, but I also know I need to do MORE.

Should roomie and i look into other classes that are not weights? We go at 6 am and there is only 3 classes to choose from (insanity is the one we do now):
  • Insanity - Push past your limits with cardio and plyometric drills with intervals of strength, power, resistance, and core training. No equipment or weights are needed, and you don’t have to be in extreme shape to do it. As long as you’re ready to dig deep, Insanity will give you the guaranteed results you are looking for.
  • Group Power - Group Power® is your hour of power! This 60 minute barbell program strengthens all your major muscles in an inspiring, motivating group environment with fantastic music and awesome instructors. With simple athletic movements such as squats, lunges, presses and curls, Group Power is for all ages and fitness levels. Discover results, discover Group Power!
  • Rush - A NEW dynamic fitness class. It's a workout made up of timed drills that challenges your speed, agility, strength, and endurance. At your own single station, RUSH incorporates multi-joint movements, the 'energy' track and legendary core exercises to maximize results. Many options are demonstrated during each RUSH class to help you achieve the safest, most efficient, and effective cross-fitness training workout possible. Have you experienced the RUSH?

There are a lot more classes in the evening, but we find that we generally feel better after working out in the morning and tend to stick with it. We tried evenings (after work) in the fall and didnt stick to it very well.

Any help would be appreciated! Should we just bite the bullet and get personal trainer sessions?

    Hey,

Just go on youtube and search for "back workout", "chest workout", "beginner program". Youtube is pretty much a free personal trainer, my personal favorite is POG (Physics of greatness)

I'm all about the weights personally, not a fan of group classes but if you enjoy them then do them!!! Also super hard to help you with this.... I'd say ask your doctors what you should be doing since you both have injuries.

Not sure if this is much help but the youtube thing will save you monies for sure :)
