hi to all those that turn to food to fill in gaps for other things.

What keeps you going? What makes you say no to food? What gets you up off your backside???

Here's a tip sheet that I collected from contributions in my weight therapy class.

I think it pays to analyse each incident, get to the root cause, and brainstorm different ways you could tackle the situation next time. Pick a strategy and see if it works. Techniques I've used recently:
    • I planned a big family event this weekend, and hubby was whining and being a general pain. For him it was going to be a big day with the in-laws. Stressful. But I certainly didn't need him to add to my stress. So I read him the riot act. I needed him to be calm and no whining. That's all. I'll do the driving, prepare the food, do all the running around, but he wasn't going to get in the way. He got the message and it was a peaceful and fun event for all. And I didn't stuff my feelings with food.
    • Part of my stress eating involves biting down on something chewy and hard. I think subconsciously I'm wanting to take a bite out of someone, but of course that's socially frowned on these days. So I do have dry, crispy, crunchy low-cal snacks available when I really need to bite down hard. I've used a swizzle stick when there was nothing else available.
    • I do more self-care which does not include food. This includes running which increases my endorphin high, hot tub soaking, yoga, and mindful breathing/meditation.
