Hamstrings...

Hi, I've had physio for a year. Initially for weak sacriollic joints and a hip issue. I also had a pain in the seat of my bum when bending/ lifting leg.
My sacriollic is much improved. I've lost 4stone. Probably another 4 to go. I swim 3/4 times a week, just started jogging (couch to 5k) go to the gym 1/2 week and walk around 20 leisure miles a week (ie not including my daily pottering about). I still have this pain in my bum and it's really painful.
Physio has said my hamstring in my l leg is very tight, she gave me a stretch to do which I do all the time. She said she would expect some improvement in a couple of weeks. It's been 3. It's the same. Today she did some contracting(?) and said I have a large muscle knot a couple of inches above my knee and she was trying to disperse it, which she felt worked. It was very painful, though I experience no pain in my 'trigger' spot when exercising, just in my bum afterwards and when sitting.
After physio I walked home about 1 1/2 miles, went in the bath and now I can feel the lumps/knots again. I'm surprised I've never felt them before they are fairly big. Do they go and then come back? Excuse my ignorance I've literally no clue!
I've just ordered a foam roller to see if I can help roll them out myself. Has anyone had any success with them? I only get 15 mins with physio (NHS) and it's never enough time to ask questions Etc. I just wondered if anyone who's had this issue can offer any practical advice? I really appreciate it.
Thanks

Hi:
I wish you a speedy recovery.
I am only recovery from an ankle reconstruction and 3 leg surgeries. It took me a year after 5 months disability in order to exercise again.
Exercise helps a lot, at least for my case. Follow the rehab instructions.
I use the foam roller at the gym to massage the muscles I have used in my workout.
Big hug0
