It was adopted in 1894 as the state flag of Mississippi which inadvertently got repealed in Mississippi law in 1906.
Realizing this oversight, lawmakers in MS put it out for a statewide vote in 2001 to either keep it, or go with another design. Voters of the state voted overwhelmingly to keep the flag as is.0 -
