Nuts

I've heard people talk about having nuts in their diet. What are the benefits since I assume they have quite a few calories? Are there nuts that are relatively low calorie? I'm not sure whether to fit nuts in to my diet. Previously I could quite easily munch on a whole jar of peanuts!

Just an ounce doesn't break the calorie bank, they are tasty and perfect for late afternoon snack. Pro nut.0

For people who do eat nuts as part of their diet, could you please tell me the benefits and also maybe suggest what nuts and what quantity?0

I buy sliced almonds. I use about 8 grams at a time. Not a lot of calories in that amount, and they add a nice texture to my serving of yogurt or cottage cheese. They help me get to my fat macro.0

Almonds are great-- 24 for a 160-calorie snack. Surprisingly satisfying, especially if I have a craving for something more decadent. I mix 12 cocoa-dusted almonds with 12 coconut-dusted almonds for a sweet snack with 3g fiber, only 3g sugars, 35 mg sodium and 1g saturated fat. (The brand I eat is Blue Diamond... not sure who else makes the flavored varieties) When the chocolates or chips arrive at work and my willpower is low, this really does the trick for me. I take a snack bag with me in my purse for when the hungry horrors hit...0

I love cashew nuts and macadamia nuts (and of course peanut butter)! Nuts are a great way to get a little protein and lots of healthy fats into your diet, especially if you're vegetarian / vegan/ pescetarian. Just be sure to buy them in their raw form, unsalted. In the case of peanut butter look out for added sugar. And of course watch the amount you eat. They can pack a calorie punch.0

They have... coconut now? I haven't had those in a while. I had the cocoa-dusted ones when they first came on the market. Wicked good.

I usually buy the nuts in the baking/health food aisles. The ones in the snack aisle are ususally salted.0

I love Cashews. I make my own trail mix bags with seeds, dried fruit etc. It's awesome!0

As I'm on a low carb/high fat diet, I love adding walnuts to my diet - plenty of fat/protein/cals. Without them I'd struggle to hit my daily macros.0

BRAZIL NUTS...so delicious...I just had 6...they were 180 cals, but I really love them. Healthy fats!0

walnuts are the debil .. avoid them
nasty, icky, dry *kitten*
and they totally ruin a walnut whip
seriously once you flick it off the top, you can't even give it away
and you see now ... now I want a walnut whip

Just google health benefit of nuts or something similar and you'll find plenty of studies. Just be sure to weigh them and fit the calories into your allowances. Here are 2 links:

I can't seem to hit my fat macros in my meals. So I usually supplement my diet with 10-20g of almonds and 32g of peanut butter.0
