It's only the beginning...

Me being here isn't easy. I love food. It is my addiction. But, it is killing me. Currently, I weight 345 lbs. and am 34 years old. My knees hurt, I'm borderline diabetic, and I can't walk up a flight of stairs to save my soul. In a room of 100 people, 99 would take the stairs and I am the one waiting for the elevator. I hate being this way, but, until recently I was not willing to give up food. I call it my lover. I am married, so I do not mean lover in a cheating aspect. I mean it as I love food and it loves me back. It attaches to my body in an instant. I have not been on my lifestyle change for two weeks yet, but I feel better.

Two weekends ago, I was coming up the stairs with a basket full of laundry, huffing and puffing away, and it just felt like my knees could not withstand another pound. That was my "click" moment. Two days later I bought myself vitamins and quit the soda cold turkey. A few days and a few lack of caffeine headaches later, I started to feel a bit better. Now, I am drinking my 64 oz. of water a day and have maintained my strict calorie adherence. It's super freakin' hard but what must be done, must be done.

I need to lose 200 pounds to be at the weight I should be at. That number is huge! I've been feeling like I don't even know where to begin. I know I need to start exercising but I just can't yet. I'm too sedentary. I will start it soon. I have a weight loss consultation with a doctor this coming Monday. I am glad I feel so serious about this.

I'm proud of you for realizing that you need to change your lifestyle :) I wish you the best of luck and don't let anything or anyone sabotage your goal, you can do this and I believe in you.

Way to go! Taking the first step in the right direction can be the most challenging. I have an extremely sedentary job, working long hours. For me,it was helpful to get a fit-bit to keep track of my steps, to make sure that I was active throughout my day. Now I look forward to beating the 10,000 steps-a-day goal. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope that you have a great support system to celebrate with you on your good days, and help you on your not so good ones.

It sounds like you are going at this the right way...with baby steps. You cut the soda, first baby step and super hard to do! Way to go! You started drinking water, second baby step. Awesome! I assume from your post that you are logging what you eat, third baby step. Keep it up!

I would suggest, once you are consistently logging your food and recognizing how much you are eating, buy a food scale. It really is an eye opener how (not) big a 75 calorie apple is, or how much chicken you can get in four ounces, or how little ice cream you get in an actual serving.

You are doing wonderful! You will probably mess up and have bad days. Just remember, you didn't gain the weight in one day, and you won't lose it all in one day either. Be kind to yourself, forgive yourself when you slip up and get back on track.

I have a desk job. But once I feel better I will begin to exercise. I can't believe how much better I feel already with just getting rid of the pop and the unhealthy foods. It's funny but I have a better outlook now. My husband and I want to have another child. We had a daughter last year that passed away at birth, I had a placental issue. It was terrible. Worst thing that could ever happen to someone is to lose their child. Of course I was overweight then, but, literally in a year I gained 80 lbs. I ate and ate and ate after losing our daughter. That is how I became addicted. Thanks you guys for the encouragement, it does help to talk to others who are facing the same issues. I was thinking food scale and a fit bit as well, but now that you have mentioned those tools I am considering them much more. I do have a question, does anyone have a success story using Adipex? I know that is something I may be offered as an assist to losing weight for my first weight appointment.

The biggest step is to realize that something needs to change. I commend you for that. Focus on the calories and tracking first BEFORE exercise. You'll lose weight just by staying in your daily calorie goal. I LOVVVVVE food too. And some days, I wander off track but the important thing is to realize that you are important and you are deserving of a healthy happy life. You can do it!

I don't know anything about Adipex. I can tell you that I LOVE my fitbit. I have the fitbit one. I clip it to my bra. It motivates me to get 10,000 steps a day. I walk on my morning, lunch and afternoon break (desk job, too).
