It's been 8 months, but my injury finally healed!

I did my first olympic triathlon last september. Trained for more than a year for it and it went well, but unfortunately I got some problems with my right lower leg shortly after that. I thought I overtrained, so I took rest. I tried to start exercising, but every time the pain returned and I had to took rest again. 2 months ago I went to a physical therapist (my father) and he saw that my feet were almost completely flat and that that's probably the cause of my problems. So I went to a foot specialist and he made insoles for me. I use those for a month and now I feel no pain anymore and I can run again! Last weekend I did my second triathlon (1/8 distance; with a 5 km run, so not too much too soon) and it went very well! Yesterday I ran 5 kilometers again and I plan to keep on exercising, slowly building my distance. I am so happy that it seems to be over!

I am a very physical person; my life enjoyment is connected a lot with how fit I am and with how much I am allowed to move. I love it that I can get past this and that I can make some plans for future challenges again! Having the injury this long did teach me some things; having a body that works well is a gift, so it is important that I take good care of my body, allowing it time to rest and actively looking for solutions if something is wrong.

I had a problem with my right foot for a long time, over a year actually! I thought it was plantar fasciitis, but the foot doctor I finally took myself to found that it was a combination of that along with a collapsing arch. OUCH. He made me some custom orthotics that WORK WONDERS. I wear them a few times per week and I can do whatever I want excercise-wise. Those things are god-sent!

    Thanks everyone!

@epawelek - Great that it worked so good for you as well! You wear them only part-time? I wear mine full time (except when I am at home, then I take my shoes off).

@SirJaseph I wear the insoles when I'm exercising or I know I will be walking a lot (mall, park, etc). At home I wear a pair of Vionic sandals, they are the only pair of sandals I've found to have the support I need. But at work I don't need to wear my insoles, my feet seem to do fine now with part-time use.
