My name is Lisa and I lost my mum last Saturday. It was a huge shock as we had always planned on her coming home from hospital. One of the things she and I had planned was that when she came home we were both going to seriously work on losing weight. I wasn't particularly worried for myself, I'm probably the healthiest fat person any one knows, but mum was really worried because while she was in hospital they were having to use the hoyer lift thing to move her and because of her weight (and she was under 300lbs) and arthritis and other health issues she was basically bedridden and that cause her a huge amount of pain. She was scared to death that I would end up suffering the same thing. So, even though Mum is no longer physically here, the last thing I want is for her to spend her afterlife in the Ether watching and worrying about me. I saw my doctor yesterday to get the referral to a dietitian and she recommended this page. and so I begin.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my mom 14 years ago, she had diabetes. We thought she would be coming home, too.
Hang in there, and do it for her, do it for yourself. Don't let a bad day now and again stop you. It is about the entire journey, and learning as we go.
Hugs to you.

Best of luck to you as you start your weight lost journey. There is lots of support here on MFP. I am very sorry about your Mum. She would be so proud of you for moving forward in her memory!!0

It's not just for me or her. As mum used to often tell me, I have to take care of me so I can take care of them. I am still my 84 almost 85 yr old father's caregiver. I have gotten very good at sneaking healthy stuff in his food. I dehydrate veggies and powder them and slip them in. It's going to be a bit of a challenge though cause I actually really like the healthy cooking and foods, it's just that he has dementia (not bad yet though thank goodness) and he is rather set in his ways and generally hates things that are healthy. He is the worst chocoholic I have ever met.
Thank you for the support. Hopefully I will be posting frequently as I go.0
