We'd all like to lose fast and in a hurry, but the way you're doing it is not sustainable (as you've already found out). Try to give yourself a more livable goal that will work for you long term. I have more to lose than you and I can't set it to 2lbs a week because it puts me at 1200 cals which is difficult for me on rest days where I don't have those extra exercise cals to eat.
It will only let me set it to lose 1lb a week, and that is my 1200 calories. MFP will not allow me to set oit to lose any more than that b/c obviously the cals would be stupidly low (frankly theyre stupidly low already, but it seems if i eat any more than 1200 cals a day i will not lose ANY weight!?)

i still enjoy a mcdonalds i just dont eat it as much as i used to .
Thats the point - it doesnt fit into my daily cals! lol

I'd go to McDonalds but skip the shake (the first time I wanted one I logged it to see the calories...turned me off of them, and my goal is well over 1200). Nothing wrong with it in moderation.0

Precisely my thoughts. Go get yourself some quality steak or something :-)
So true. The voices of reason have spoken! I love you guys already! LOL seriously, youve all really helped me through a moment of severe weakness.

Narcissora wrote: »When I want something that will make me go way over my daily calories, I ask myself "is it worth it?"
"Worth it" to me can be many things - is what I want to eat worth me possibly feeling like crap after I eat it? Is what I want to eat worth me possibly gaining weight the next time I am scheduled to record my weight? Is what I want to eat worth it if it sets me back a few more days from my goals? Occasionally the answer is yes. Usually it is no. But you have to decide for yourself if it is "worth it" for you or not.
Good luck!

Be careful... he's not worth getting in to trouble over. Some people are just not supportive. Talk to and hang around the people who are.0 -

Because your comment came across as condescending. May not have been how you meant it, but it's how it read.
And if all you were looking for was support, perhaps phrase the title and post differently and post in the "motivation and support" section.
You've already gotten great advice here, but you knew all of that yourself. If you've been following paleo, you know substitutions for things, and they often recommend cooking your own food over eating out because you have more control over it.
You know what you need to do. Go do it. If you decide that isn't sustainable for you, find ways to incorporate the foods you like.
And I agree with several others that not eating food to make up for beer is setting yourself up for disaster. It's much easier to make bad food choices when you have been skipping food to compensate for other choices. I'd much rather eat at maintenance or slightly above for a day than to try to starve just to hit my goal. One day won't hurt in the long run.0 -
If it were me I would totally go out and get a hamburger, small fry and small shake. You are trying to teach yourself how to live healthier long term, and to deprive yourself of occasional treat meals like this may actually cause you to fail. Moderation works.0

What do you mean "the moderators allow it". He's been in jail more than any other poster on here.
If you're going to complain about what's "allowed", please include what the OP replied with as what should and shouldn't be allowed as well. I mean, don't want to be hypocritical...right?0 -

I think you need to look up the meaning of 'community'. If this site was not about supporting each other there would only be the food logging/exercise logging facility, not a community forum for people to support each other, exchange ideas, ask questions etc etc.
If you want to go it alone then fine, thats up to you, but i dont WANT to! And as long as there are nice peeps out there in our "community" who are willing to offer their advice and to share our journeys with, well then i will continue to enjoy their SUPPORT.
Thanks to everyone who wasnt unhelpful or rude (which is everyone barr 1) - i strongly believe you can reach more goals as a TEAM than on your own. End of.0 -

I'd add KFC to the same list as McDonald's.

PUT THE BIG MAC DOWN!!!!!
Have a plan next time! I keep cup o noodles and cans of chili for when I need something easy and comforting.
Since you're sick and aren't likely to exercise any to "earn" the big mac. You'll have to go without. You will feel gross after having a big mac, fries, and a milkshake. But would having a small hamburger and an icecream cone calm the inner cravings?
Hehe. OK OK, i fold. Im steppin' away... backin' up... runnin' in opposite direction... n not lookin' back!
Seriously you guys have helped me so much. I definitely will not be having a MaccyDees tonight.!

No kidding. Not to mention the misogyny of the stupid period comment.
OP, since you are already feeling the pinch of a low calorie allowance, I can't for the life of me understand why you are then layering on more restrictions and "food don'ts."
If I were stuck with only 1200 calories of food and then blocked out whole food groups, I'd be insane with food cravings, too.

brightsideofpink wrote: »It sounds like you are setting yourself up for failure. And I'm not talking about the Big Mac. You're trying to do so many things at once. Low carb, paleo, and the lowest calorie recommendation even available at MFP. Why? Why so many? No wonder you're pulling your hair out and ready to jump not off the bridge but into the whiny waters of forums.
Figure out what works for you and stick with it. Most people on this site prefer simple calorie budgeting. And you can fit a big mac into that easier than you might think. Others have said though, its all about what you think is worth it. There are days where such a food item really hits my craving, and is worth the opportunity cost of additional food. Most days though, it doesn't satisfy for the calories and so I stay away from it.
You don't have to over-restrict. I've lost 65 lbs in the past year and I've eaten my fair share of McDonalds, pizza, ice cream, chocolate bars, and more. Just budget.
All of this. Requoting for emphasis.
OP you may be trying to do too much restricting right off the bat - it sounds like you are throwing everything at the wall to see what will stick.
In case you have not read this already, give this a go:

Also I can't think of a single time that I've had the flu and have craved a big mac, fries and a coke. Soup? Grilled Cheese? Sure. I think it's the beers driving the craving, not the actual "flu". Lastly, what kind of beer are you drinking that two of them mean that you have to cut out 2 full meals? This is just another indication that your calories are set too low...0 -
Prelog the food you want from McDonald's. Does any of it fit your calories? If it does then have some.
I think you are making a mistake starting out too intensely restricted and will often have moments like this where a friend wants to drink, you have a craving, there is an event with food that doesn't fit your plan. Can you do primal/paleo and 1200 calories long term? I would consider a less restrictive calorie goal to start with and lower it after you lose if you need to.
Thinking of foods as good, bad, or feeling you are fat or disgusting for eating something is a difficult mind set. You do know that people can get fat on plain homemade grilled skinless chicken and vegetables if they go consistantly eat more than they burn? People don't only get fat because they eat fast food and you are not disgusting for being overweight and eating.
Regards the restrictiveness of only 1200 cals a day i totally agree with you, i also think it is a tough goal to sustain, but unfortunately it appears that if i eat any more than 1200 cals a day i will NOT lose weight. At leasty that's what MFP seems to be telling me! Even at 1200 i wont even be losing 1lb a week (0.9lbs per week projected loss). I just dont know how i can lose weight any slower than that?

Happy Friday everyone!!
Wait...what do you mean it's not Friday yet???0 -
When I first started out, I was the same way. I was sooo strict as to I'm not going to eat this, I will only eat this Fast food is the devil ...... etc etc. But I've been on here for two years. Maybe not long to some but I've come to realize that I don't let a 1 pound gain upset me, that one 16 oz bottle of water. I don't let one meal stress me out. Eat it and move on. Life is too short. Just indulge and burn it off or make up for the calories within next few days or so.0

We've hit our quota for the day for how many times a mod has had to come into this thread. Here's a rundown of the community guidelines that have been violated:
1. No Attacks or Insults and No Reciprocation
a) Do not attack, mock, or otherwise insult others. You can respectfully disagree with the message or topic, but you cannot attack the messenger. This includes attacks against the user’s spelling or command of written English, or belittling a user for posting a duplicate topic.
b) If you are attacked by another user, and you reciprocate, you will also be subject to the same consequences. Defending yourself or a friend is not an excuse! Do not take matters into your own hands – instead, use the Report Post link to report an attack and we will be happy to handle the situation for you.
11. No Airing of Grievances With Moderators
a) Protesting a moderator or admin action is not allowed on the Forums or in Groups. If you have a question or concern about a moderator or admin action, please email one of the moderators or Olivia, MFP's Community Manager, with your concern and we will investigate the matter promptly.
b) If you have concerns about another poster, or wish to report a guideline violation, the only appropriate venue is to use the Report Post link or to message a moderator or Olivia, MFP's Community Manager. You may not air such concerns on the message boards themselves. If you have a general concern that does not involve a specific member, you may post your question in the Feedback or Help forums.
c) Threats made to moderators will not be tolerated, and will result in an immediate ban from the site.
And let's not forget this in regards to flagging:
What is Abuse: Pornography, graphic or disturbing images, hate speech, etc. Basically, if you wouldn't want your children or your boss standing behind you when you open the post, or if having it on your computer would get you fired from your job, you can consider it Abuse. This is for severe, urgent violations.
What is not Abuse: General community guideline violations, posts you disagree with, posts by people you are arguing with in a forum, and anything else that does not meet the criteria above.0
