Hey, I'm Dave...

Next week I turn 50 years old so I'm thinking a lot about my health. I had started using the MapMyWalk app a few weeks back, so when a friend invited me to check out the MyFitnessPal app, I was curious how the two apps work together.

I'm from Calgary, Alberta, Canada and work for an emergency response planning company making maps. I have been Type 2 Diabetic for almost 10 years so taking care of myself is a priority. My doctor says his diabetic patients are some of his healthiest so I'm planning to join that group. Honestly, I haven't put enough effort into monitoring, maintaining and medicating my condition in the past. But a recent crisis where my blood glucose shot up on a careless day, and a couple friends losing limbs to the disease, I'm working to be intentional about what I eat, how much activity I get each day and how I take care of myself in general.

I'm looking to lose 50 lbs right now so we'll see what happens as I employ these awesome tools.

    Good luck on your journey. I am in my 40s and started my quest for a healthy life last September. So far so good.
