Depressed

I am so depressed. It is summer time and I was hoping to double my walks now that I am off. I wanted to start c25k, I did the first day and hurt my foot. It is not broken I had it x-rayed. I really hurts to walk on it. I just tried going for my walk and had to turn around. Seriously I am going into a depression about this.
Does anyone have any suggestions? What about an exercise bike? I'd like one under $150. I can't believe how much not walking is affecting me.

Walking consistently is how I lost about 50 lbs. So, I do understand. Not being able to do it would have depressed me also. But, you have to listen to your body. Why not try some strength exercises with some dumbbells, while you are waiting for your foot to heal. Also, things like crunches and leg lifts are great things you can do, that won't put too much pressure on your foot.
The key is to keep doing something. It's too easy to give up completely when you have a small setback. Don't let that happen to you!
Good luck. Feel better!0 -
I'm sorry to hear that your emotions are taking such a toll on you. Depression is a rough terrain. Do you already have a bike (an outdoor, regular bicycle) ? If so, you could purchase an indoor bicycle trainer stand. Basically, the stand will hold your bike in place, so you can use it as a stationary bicycle.
Can you keep yourself active? I know yoga isn't the same as walking. But, they can share some similarities. Do you have a backyard, or is there a park nearby? You could do yoga outside until your foot feels better (make sure to look for yoga that won't further impact your injury).
Do you know how to swim? Does your neighborhood have a community pool? Is there a gym with a pool that you could join? If so, start swimming. From your profile pic, it looks like being in nature is important to you. Are there any lakes nearby in which you could swim?
I just googled "exercise with hurt foot", and there looked to be a lot of possibly helpful articles and discussion posts. I hope you find something that works for you.

I would suggest swimming, if you have access to a pool and know how to swim. If you can get to a pool, but you can't swim, try jogging in the water (in the shallow part of the pool, and use a flotation device if you can't swim--we don't want you to drown!). It's a lot harder than it looks, it's great exercise, and it won't put any load on your foot.0

Hurting your foot, ankle, knee, calf, shin, thigh, butt, or back is quite common if you haven't walked or run in a long time. Just rest until the pain is no longer intense enough to stop you, then walk again.0

This gave me a chronic recurring injury for life. I wouldnt do anything that is even remotely uncomfortable. Usually you'll recover in a couple weeks if you don't go messing with it. Do some hot epsom salt baths and stuff and try to keep your weight off it. The more you mess with it the longer it will most likely take to heal.
I was devastated, like you, and I rushed getting back into it. Working thru light pain brought the injury back full strength and I inevitably caused permanent damage. Be careful. Err on the safe side.0 -
Thank you everyone for the suggestions and help! I bought an exercise bike online yesterday. It is actually supposed to be delivered today! My plan is to use it only while my foot heals. After that I will definitely go back to walking 4 miles a day and I will also use the bike.
This wasn't my plan, but life doesn't go as planned.0
