I reckon it's because not many people bother counting how many they consume.

I have reported this in the MFP Suggestions/Feedback; however, the developers either have not addressed it yet; or they just do not think it is important enough to correct this issue.
@Olivia , could you let us know if MFP is actually working to correct this issue? I have seen numerous threads asking this same question over the last few months. Thank you.

There is a reported issue on the iOS app -- and now the Android app -- where it incorrectly displays the poly- and monounsaturated fats goals as zero instead of N/A as on the Web version and Android version. There are no specific daily reference values (DRVs) for unsaturated fats, so there are no corresponding goals for either poly or mono.
Please see this thread for the reported issue.

Thank you @CyberTone - I do recall this coming up last month and know it was discussed; I will follow up on Monday to make sure its on our radar.

Looping back to confirm this is on our radar to fix; those fat goals shouldn't be zero and our team is aware of the concern. I don't have an ETA on when it will get fixed yet though.

Thank you @Olivia for the update.

Please do not let the coders/programmers off the hook. There is definitely a difference between a not applicable (N/A) goal and a zero (0) goal. The polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat goals are now also not displayed correctly on the Web version - see below screen capture. These goals were once displayed correctly on previous Web, iOS, and Android versions; so it can be coded properly - as shown in my previous screen captures posted on March 16, 2015.

In my opinion, it is just not right to display to MFP users, especially highlighted in red font, that they have exceeded their goals for polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats, when there are clearly no set daily reference values (DRVs) for those micronutrients.

I thought this was the explanation...Since there are no official guidelines, the default was 0. Are they planning on making up numbers for our goals? Or just taking away the red numbers?
All versions used to provide not applicable (N/A) for the poly- and monounsaturated fat goals, which makes more sense. Here is a screen capture of how MFP previously displayed those goals on the Web version.

    @Olivia
Could you provide an update on the resolution of this issue?
There continues to be questions from users on the forums asking why there are specific goals for saturated fats, but zero goals for poly- and monounsaturated fats.

The iOS app has changed to N/A by default for both of these. Not sure on Android though.
That is good to know the iOS app team has fixed the issue.
The goals are still showing zero on Android 4.4.1 and the Web version.

@cybertone Sorry this makes me feel al little crazy pants; didn't it used to show N/A on Android and Web? I thought it was only iOS previously that was wrong and now its fixed? Regardless I will file about it, just wanting to understand if its a recent change or, as I believe described, its been borked in those apps for awhile too.

It's been like that on the web for a while now, and I just checked again and it's definitely still showing 0 for me.

In the meantime, can anyone recommend the RDA's (recommended daily allowance) for sat, mono, poly and trans fats?

Trans fats should be 0 or as close to 0 as you can get.
Sat fats are supposed to be <7% of daily calories.
The rest of your fats are supposed to be the mono and polys.

Those are general guidelines. Different people can have different things. That's for the average person. :)

For saturated, 10% of calories, some guidelines are even less, but see: http://www.foodpolitics.com/2014/03/is-saturated-fat-a-problem-food-for-debate/.

    For mono/poly, no specific limit.

For artificial trans fat, avoid if you can; the FDA is going to make it illegal and it's largely being phased out already, I believe. (The terminology is a bit confusing because, as explained by wiki: "A type of trans fat occurs naturally in the milk and body fat of ruminants (such as cattle and sheep) at a level of 2–5% of total fat." That's not what is normally meant.)

You don't need premium to track poly and monounsaturated fats.

What precisely makes no sense on the app? The goal being 0? Or something else?
