Strength Training Ideas for People Who Can't Lift Weights

Hi All! Any good, non-weight involving, strength training tips? Can swimming develop muscles?

Can't as in herniated cervical discs with slight cord impingement. Traction and PT helped me tremendously so no surgery (yay!). Not willing to take a risk. I know I can work lower body, but these arms need serious toning.0

Thanks, I'll ask about them. I found a trainer who works out of an orthopedist practice. He should be able to help me. I'm just impatient0

Ask your doctor before you do anything and work with a PT to figure out what is going to be safe for you.
Swimming does help to develop muscles.0 -
Thank you. I was curious about swimming since a) I have a pool, and b) swimming is easy on my spine.
I'm thinking that regardless of what the PT says, weights are just not going to happen with anything over mid-lumbar level. I'm lucky that I'm okay. I like being okay. Swimming I can do.0
