Painting - can't find anything in the database

Seems to me that this would be calorie-burning, especially at my weight, but can't find anything about painting in the exercise database - what should I be looking for besides paint/painting?

Thanks :)

Seriously? You don't think painting a room burns any calories?

    Standing burns calories.

If you really want to count it as exercise, I'd use the "Cleaning, light, moderate effort."

i'd probably go for cleaning - there are two choices in the database, light moderate effort or vigorous. You can enter your weight and the number of minutes and it works out the calories for you. And yes, I agree, it is worth counting!

Painting interior walls is there at least it used to be bc I have it in my "previously logged" menu.

Did you break a sweat? Did you heart rate elevate considerably? Did you feel like you just worked out when you finished? I personally wouldn't count it, but if you really want to, I would go with the previous poster's suggestion of "cleaning, light".

I would log it as similar to gardening, which burns a bunch of calories. I feel about the same after a major gardening session as I do after doing a lot of painting, especially if you're up and down to the floor, and up and down a ladder cutting in. Serious painting is definitely a much higher burn than light household cleaning.

(This is assuming you're talking house painting and not doing watercolours!)

It says 60 mins burns 553 cals. Can't attest to the accuracy but that it what it says.

Sitting on my butt burns calories too; forgive me for thinking that getting up and moving and doing something would burn more!

Every day I log "moving through life." It makes me feel good.

That's nice. If you were painting at the same time - you'd feel even better.

it seems there are quite a few people here who must employ an interior decorator if they seriously think that painting walls in a house doesn't make you work up a sweat and burn calories!!! It's an entirely physical activity!!!

I agree:) and thank you for being nice. :flowerforyou:

That's seems to be difficult for some.

My apologies if I came across as mean. I stripped wallpaper and painted 4 large rooms (2 of which had vaulted ceilings), when I bought my house a few years back (no longer in it due to the military), and I remember it being a physical activity, but not one where I felt as though I was working out. Hope you got it figured out.
