is it a fruit or a vegetable? I always thought it was a fruit but I was looking at seeds today and it was in the vegetable section.

Cantaloupe is a fruit but I can see where a store worker might think of it as a vegetable. There's not a clear-cut line between the definitions of fruits and vegetables.

Here's an article discussing the issue, although with the main focus on watermelon:

Watermelon: A fruit or a vegetable?

I think cantaloupe (rockmelon where I live) is a fruit - just like watermelon and other melons.

It's botanically a fruit. I consider it a fruit but I see how it can be a veggie (grows out like a squash).

I am having cantaloupe with breakfast these days. I'm treating it as fruit. Delicious!

I looked again today at a different store and every packet of seeds actually says vegetable on it. Either way I love cantaloupe!!

I have cantaloupe almost everyday. It's one of my favorite fruits when the weather turns warmer.

lol I always thought any thing with seed is classified as a fruit :) green peppers, avocado, cucumber, zucchini :) I think this logic is something I recall hearing in grade school.

Botanically, yes. Some people, though, only consider food a fruit if it is sweet. Some even only consider it a fruit if it is sweet and grows on a tree or bush, rather than a vine.
