I ate at several hundred calories above maintenance....including two donuts. They were really tasty and I savored them but now I am beating myself up. My weight loss journey has been slow and steady but this last 5-10 pounds is just hard. I never blow it this bad. Will I never be able to eat without abandon again?

I can't. I will be on maintenance for 3 yrs in Sept and I feel guilty every time I eat way more than I should even if I planned for it. I am able to calm myself by reminding myself that it has been years and somehow my weight is still bouncing within 5lbs of the original 100lbs lost. I think perhaps it is healthy to worry a bit. I eat less because I know the guilt is still there.

Don't beat yourself up. A few donuts won't wreck all your hard work at all. You'll be fine. If you ate over your maintenance daily, then you would gain. But this is just one day, so it's not going to hurt you.
I eat over all the time. It's no big thing to me at all because I know it'll balance itself out. I may add on 20 extra mins of cardio that week but that's it. Life's too short to stress over a couple donuts. Stay on your plan tomorrow and you'll be okay.

Thanks :) I needed some logic from an outside source.

If you are trying to lose weight, the calorie deficit that you normally have will eventually eliminate the extra calories you ate. If you were maintaining your weight, the extra calories would accumulate and you would eventually need to eat at a deficit to overcome the extra calories.

If I go over, I think of it as slowing me down, not stopping me. Maybe it'll take a little longer to get there, but life is long and food is yum and as long as the trend is down, it's all good.

Eat with no abandon? Like, regularly? And maintain? No. eat two donuts from time to time while otherwise making good choices, sure.

You can do this, just create a TRUE lifestyle where you're eating mostly nutrient dense foods, and adding in sensible snacks and the entire true indulgence. Keep moving. You'll be fine.
