HTC, android and ANT+

Right, much as I love gadgets, I don't understand the tech behind them.
I have an HTC One m8 phone that I use with Endomondo to log workouts.
I also have a Wahoo TIKR Bluetooth and ANT+ HRM that connects with the phone, and Endomondo through the Bluetooth.
Trouble is, the connection is unreliable as the phone stays in a saddlebag on the bike so it doesn't work very well.
Is the ANT+ connection more robust, and if so, anyone know how to pair them through that?
