Safe to workout after stomach bug?

Hi.

I'm recovering from a stomach bug, and just wondering whether it is ok to get back in the gym yet. My usual Monday routine is 1hr of weights and 1hr of cardio (both classes). I really don't want to get behind on my gym routine but equally don't want to struggle through it, or worse.

are you still feeling sick? If yes, then I would say give yourself another day. Also, when you do back I would recommend cutting your regular routine back for say a week. Whenever I am recovering from an illness, I find that the first week back in the gym is pretty rough as all my lifts are off and I do not have as much energy ...

If you're still not feeling well, stay home. Both for your health and other people at the gym.

If you're feeling okay, then I agree with the above. Don't push yourself too hard.

I know how you feel - I just skipped a week at the gym due to gastritis, and it was more difficult getting back into it even after a short break.
Each day I did 10 jumping jacks before I decided whether or not to go... the nausea came, so I didn't go. Maybe try the same, and if you're feeling sick/extra tired after the first class skip the second?
Also, make sure you eat something nutritious that you can keep down; if you can't properly fuel yourself, don't work out! Cuz no one wants to be that person who faints in class...

if that is the case I would give it another day or two ...I know it sucks, trust me I have been there, but do you really want to go to the gym and feel worse???

it's so frustrating. My concern is that if I skip it , it will be the start of my falling back into old habits. I may go and attempt the cardio class, but miss the weights as included lots of stomach/core exercises.

Why are you worried about missing a workout if you have a stomach bug? Take care of yourself, recover, and then go back to the gym. It will still be there. :)

Missing workouts when you're sick won't send you back into old habits, but talking yourself out of workouts when you are just fine might. ;)

If you really think it's going to ruin your mindset, you can always do some body weight exercises at home. That way you can take plenty of breaks if you need to, but can still get a workout in to help keep you on track. :)

You won't fall back into old habits. You're sick! Take care of yourself. The last thing you need is to make yourself feel worse for the next few days by pushing it too hard. If you want to get some work in, go for a walk or something light so you're not putting so much stress on your body.

I would not want to do cardio after having a stomach bug, but that is just me...

I get that you don't want to fall back into old habits, but part of the lifestyle change is realizing that there are going to be some days when you cannot workout and that is OK, just like there will be some days when you can't 100% track all of your calories, and that is OK too...

I guess one day wont hurt. I'd be so embarrassed if I fainted or was sick. Tuesdays are rest days for me, so I might leave it until Wednesday for getting back into it. However, means I'm missing one of my two big cardio days.

So the stomach bug lingers in your system for up to 2 weeks, and will continue to be expelled for up to 2 weeks as you have a BM. So unless you are sure you wont have BM, I would avoid going to the gym and other places, just to reduce spreading the virus (on that note, make sure to clean all surfaces in your home with a hydrogen peroxide cleaner, not bleach based, and then your bathroom daily for those 2 weeks). Additionally, If your stomach is still feeling crampy, I would thing exercises might trigger that. There is nothing wrong resting when you are sick. Keep yourself accountable and you wont fall into old habits. You could still do workout videos at home if you really think you want to do something.
