When it comes to weight loss, many people would rather try the latest craze, pill, surgery or yo-yo diet rather than simply eating right and exercising. Dieting has become a multi-million dollar industry, and there is always a new weight loss craze to stir up the masses and get them spending. The latest "miracle,"
Tongue Patch Surgery, comes from Beverly Hills surgeon, Nikolas Chugay, and it seems quite barbaric.
For $2000, you can have a plastic square sewed onto your tongue
that makes it too painful for you to eat solid foods and ensures about 30
pounds of weight loss in a month. After the abrasive patch is sewn to your
tongue, you spend the next 30 days on Dr. Chugay’s liquid diet, which is said
to meet all your dietary and nutritional needs in just 800 calories a day.
Not only does this sound miserable, but there are side effects
that come with sewing a foreign object into your mouth. Hindered speech,
constant pain leading to sleep loss, choking, and potential nerve damage are
just a few of the risks. On top of that, the patch must be removed in a month
or the tongue tissue surrounding it will grow over the plastic and painfully
incorporate the patch into your tongue. Gross!
The FDA hasn't even approved the procedure in the United States,
and Dr. Chugay is the only surgeon who performs it. But in Venezuela, it only costs
$150 and about 900 people a month are lining up for the newest weight loss
"miracle.

Well, I don't even have a spot on my MFP bingo card for this one.

A radio station I listen to was talking about this a few weeks ago. One person called up and said their sister had it done. Of course she lost some weight because she could hardly eat; however, the patch was really hard to clean and would turn nasty colors. I wouldn't be surprised if people who had this done ended up with infections from it. Disgusting.0
