Salad jars

So I'm thinking of making those salad jars where the wet ingredients on on bottom and lettuce on top so it doesn't get soggy. And I want to make several at a time so I can take them to work for lunch.
Anyone ever try it? I see pictures of them all the time on fb but I'm not sure how long they stay fresh.

I need to try those! I read that they stay fresh for a couple of days but if you're not going to eat it soon after making it, you should put the dressing in a separate container to add later0

Yes, I make them, although I don't put the dressing in the jar. If you made them Sunday they would still be fresh for Friday. I usually make 5-6 at at time.
Note that they stay fresh because you pack the ingredients in quite tight, so you can't eat straight out of the jar. Well, you can, but the salad wouldn't be mixed!0 -

I have made them before and really liked it. I didn't eat the salad from the jar as some posts say you can; I poured in out onto a plate and it layered perfectly. I am not sure how long it will last because I made mine one evening and ate it the next day for lunch. Nothing in the jar was soggy; all was good and fresh.0 -
I make these all the time for lunches during the week at work. They pack nicely and make a great layered salad when I dump it out on a plate. I have never tried adding the dressing to the jar though, I always just pack it separately.0

I haven't made the salad jars but am reusing the side salad containers from McDonalds. If I don't want to use the dressing I keep at work, I just bring it on the side in one of those small rubbermaid containers. Works good enough for me.0

Call me crazy but when I eat a salad I want to eat a BIG salad. I can't imagine that a salad shoved into a mason jar is going to do it for me. Neat idea, but not for me.0

I used the medium sized jar and packed a lot in. I do have to take out the lettuce and loosen up the meat and cheese then shake. I actually had to cut back on what I put in because the salad was too big. I thought I didn't have enough room for lettuce and ended up finding there was too much. It was huge. It is surprising how much you can get in ther.
My first salad had 4 ounces of chicken (boiled and tossed with hot sauce) and an ounce of cheese, plus tomato, carrot, celery, red onion dressing and romaine (it was a buffalo chicken salad). The next week I switched to 3 ounces of chicken, 1/2 ounce of cheese.
I just started making these. I thought they were just a cutsey idea until I saw it is supposed to last for 5-7 days. I love them now, so convenient. It takes no time to make.0 -

I've made them a couple of times but it was a bit of a pain carrying around a big glass jar! Also it's worth remembering that most of the jars are quite deep so you can't eat it out of the jar so they're only useful if you're not on the go and have access to a plate! I've had mine last (stay good, not soggy) for 6-7 days. I make a few over the weekend for the week. Make sure you get quart WIDE mouth jars. Take a bit of figuring/cutting/packing but I'm loving them so far. Truly amazing how much food one can wedge into these containers if you plan it well. Can't eat from the jar so bring a nice BIG plate to keep at the job. So many different options with Mason Jars (overnite oatmeal and protein packed fruit yogurt jars as well).0
