Beyond Diet - End of Week Two

So here I am at the beginning of week three on the "Beyond Diet" diet. The diet claims you'll lose 5 to 10lbs after the two week induction period. Well after week one I lost 2lbs. I weighed myself yesterday (after two weeks) and had gained a lb back. I had followed it pretty much so was very disappointed. I also kept logging my food on MFP and was eating at a deficit, probably eating around 1200 calories a day. They state you should be eating 1600 calories a day the first two weeks, but that was way too much for me. Am I glad I spent the $47 dollars? I have to say yes for the following reasons.
I'd been struggling for many months to just get back on some kind of healthy eating and logging my food again on MFP. In fact I was off MFP for probably over 4 months as I had just given up, which of course led me to gain an additional 18lbs since last September. I was just too embarrassed to log my food. My eating habits were horrendous - definitely not eating enough fruits and veggies and mindlessly eating too much junk food. This motivated me to start eating healthy again and thinking about what I was putting in my mouth.
I'm trying to eat more organic foods. I gave up junk food, my Diet Pepsi and am drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day. I gave up the creamer in my coffee which I know isn't a big deal, but it was probably 80 wasted calories I've learned to live without and using it for food. I'm eating lots and lots more veggies. I gave up sugar and now using Stevia, except on the one day a week where you're allowed to cheat and eat whatever you want.
What I haven't been doing is getting enough exercise and eating too much on my one day a week "cheat days", or too much of the wrong things on those days. But in my defense the diet states you can do that, and I was still eating at a deficit. I weigh myself on Mondays and yesterday, after two weeks (like I said), gained a lb. Then today when I unofficially got on the scale I had gained over two more lbs., which is almost 4lbs since the end of week one. So basically I didn't lose anything and gained a lot. I do take a weight gaining med known for causing difficulty to lose weight, plus 6 other meds so I don't know how much this is affecting my ability to lose weight, plus let's throw in menopause. I only mention the meds because if I'm eating at a deficit I should be losing something.
Going forward will I stick to this diet? I think I'll probably use the good parts of it. The diet isn't weird, just normal food, but they do stress eating organic foods. I've gotten a couple hundred delicious recipes so that's a good thing. What I can't do? As a person starts Phase 2 of this diet you take a test and determine whether you're a Protein type, Carb type, or Mixed type. I think I'm mixed. They claim you never have to count calories again stating you just need to eat the correct portions of proteins, carbs, and fats, then they make suggestions about how many portions of protein, carbs and fats you should eat each day based on your type. I can't do that. I figure if I am eating healthy, weighing and measuring my food and eating at a deficit I will eventually lose weight. At least that's my hope.
So that's my take on "Beyond Diet".

I've never heard of this diet, but 1-3 lb weight fluctuations don't always mean fat gain. I could just be water weight, especially since you take a medication known to cause weight gain. But, if you are eating too much on your "cheat days" that could be problematic. It is absolutely possible to undo 6 days of deficit in one day of pigging out. Not saying you do this, just saying it's possible.
But I think you have a good attitude. Stick with it and sooner or later the results must come.
Best of luck to you.0 -

I read through your whole post any have to say that the idea of being a diet "type" is ludicrous. However the last sentence you wrote is 100% correct. No matter what "weight gain" meds you are on, if you eat in a caloric deficit for long enough you will lose weight0 -

I am impressed you read it
But I'm also pleased you quoted that line because seriously OP that's the whole thing in a nutshell
you don't need specific diet .. you need to know that your calories in are fewer than calories out and you will lose weight
so accuracy with logging food and exercise counts .. although they're all estimates and need to be judged against your progress over time (6-8 weeks) and then adjusted0 -
You can lose weight on pretty much any diet, if you follow it. Few provide the results that they imply. As long as you are eating at a calorie deficit, you will lose weight.0

If you diet for a short period of time and don't keep it up you're going to gain it all back, sounds like a bs diet to me, take it slow for long term results0

I looked into this and really liked Betty (Fit...Finally!) and she got her start with Beyond Diet. I was able to view some of the "methods" and recipes before buying and knew it wasn't for me but luckily they do offer a money back guarantee. You can keep the recipes and info you got and get a refund. I'd integrate those tools and recipes into MFP and CICO and see how your results start to look then. They're whole motto is that you don't have to count calories if you stick to foods that naturally jump start your metabolism and fuel your body. Nice theory, but once again, most people can't afford to eat only organic nor do most of us have time to meticulously plan out our shopping trips and meals every day-I know I don't!0

I agree really type. You make a choice as to what your macros will be and stick to them. That doesn't type you.0

"Probably eating around 1200 calories a day"
If you're logging correctly, this number isn't a guess. Log your food, eat at a deficit. Don't make this harder than it is!0
