Hello I'm trying to follow my nutritionists advice and follow the food guide suggestions. It's creating way too many calories. Any suggestions?

The generic Canada Food Guide is your nutritionist's recommendation? I hope you aren't paying much for that advice, you can surf to http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/food-guide-aliment/index-eng.php for free.

Personally I find the guide's ideas outdated at best, biased at worst. For example there is far too much reliance on grains. Why? Could it be that Canada is a major grain producer?

I don't follow that outdated guide either. There are far too many grains on there.

ETA to add: Also keep in mind that anyone can complete an online course and call themselves a Nutritionist. It is not the same qualifications as being a Registered Dietician.

It suggests way too many grains. I'd just reduce that and then go with it.
