Is going to bed hungry bad for your metabolism?

My family was never really big into eating dinner (breakfast was always the get-together meal), so I've gotten into the habit of just having a snack in the evening and kinda going to bed a little peckish. Never, like, starving-hungry (I can always fall asleep), but a little hungry. (I'm not trying to lose weight, either, just maintain) And I have a large breakfast and a substantial lunch, so it isn't as though I'm starving myself.

I was thinking, though, could it be bed for your metabolism to go to bed hungry? Anybody have any info or insights on this?

total calorie intake is what matters. Do not worry about the rest make sure you are eating good wholesome foods

I would think it is a good thing to not have a belly full of food when your body is shutting down for the night. A light snack is one thing, but I never eat past 6 or 7 PM.

the consensus tends to be what asrar has said about overll calorie intake. If you are fine with it then dont worry its not causing you any problems.

No. But it may be bad for your sleep. I know it's woken me up a few times.

This is why i choose to eat a significant amount of my calories 1-2 hours before i go to bed. I can deal with hunger in the morning, but it's hard when im trying to sleep.

You may go to sleep but your body is still functioning. Unless you suffer from acid reflux or something, total calories is all that matters.

I eat upward of 1k calories before bed sometimes....

I was eating dinner at 8:30-10 three nights a week in the winter. Didn't hinder my weight loss at all. Unless sleeping on a full stomach causes problems, meal timing is irrelevant to weight loss.

I always eat a light snack about 10 pm, but by the time I go to bed at midnight, I usually feel a little bit hungry.

I'm steadily losing weight, so going to bed hungry doesn't seem to have any negative effects.

I normally work 14-15hrs a day I've started up at the gym a week ago I tend to eat before I go to bed. I waste a whole of energy each day. I don't eat anything more than a Clif Bar before I go to bed.

^^^ THIS.. I'm a late dinner eater. It hasn't negatively affected my weight loss.

It's about total calories you take in.
