Stomach growling

Last night, while watching TV, my stomach started growling. It happened a couple times. Just as I figured I would eat an apple or string cheese or something my son woke up and I ended up falling asleep after rocking him back to sleep.
I had eaten all my calories yesterday (19 over) but my macros sucked (not enough protein). I didn't exercise. I'm set to eat 1550 a day, and I'm at 203 lbs right now.
Should I have eaten something? I know that sounds stupid to a lot of you, but after really poor "dieting" methods my entire life, I'm trying to be as [mentally] healthy as possible about diet and exercise. I would think if my stomach's growling I need food, but maybe not.

Sometimes hunger can be disguising thirst. I always try to drink a large glass of water first to see if it's really hunger. Especially late at night when the snack-bug hits me. I'd say though, if it was easy enough for you to fall asleep it was probably an ok decision to not eat something.0

Eh...a growly stomach just means you're hungry. It's really not a bad thing, but if it bothers you, go ahead and eat something.0

Mmmm....a growling stomach can mean that you're hungry, but it doesn't only mean that you're hungry. It could just as easily be air moving through your intestines.

I struggle with recognizing hunger signals, but I have learned that when my stomach growls, it's not automatically time to eat.0 -
If your body is hungry, FEED IT! Sending it into starve mode will make it take from lean muscle. Protein is a good thing to keep you full. A simple protein shake, or apples and Pb should satisfy that hunger without it being heavy or over eating!0

It's different for everyone, I think. For me, if my belly is growling, it wants food and when I don't feed it within a certain amount of time, I get severe back pains that don't go away even when I do eat.0
