I'm feeling super stupid for asking this question...I don't understand what everyone means by "macros"...I don't know if there is a thread of macros for dummies to help me wrap my head around the tidbits of info people are talking about..."hitting macros" "but I would really appreciate someone pointing me in that direction if there is!!

Thank you. *hides head in shame* lol

    This is a bit over simplified, but can suffice while someone hunts up a good one.

    In reality, you may not even need to know what "hitting your macros" means. It would depend on your goals...it could be your approach for eating at a deficit, or you could ignore them. Again, depending on your goal.

    macros = percent of carbs/fats/protein in your diet. What your goals are will determine how you set them up.

    macros = protein, carbs, fat

    protein = 4 cals/gram
    carbs = 4 cals/gram
    fat = 9 cals/gram

    protein and fat are essential macronutrients, carbs are not

    hit protein and fat minimums and fill remaining calories with carbs

    protein = 1 gram per lb lean bodymass
    fat = 0.45 gram per lb lean bodymass
    carbs = fill remaining calories

    e.g. somebody with 120 lbs lean bodymass who wants to consume 1500 calories a day, their macros would be

    120 grams protein (120x4) = 480 cals
    55 grams fat (55x9) = 495 cals
    carbs = remaining calories = 1500 - (480 + 495) = 525 cals of carbs

    525/4 = 131 grams of carbs
