Hi everyone. I've been a triathlete/runner since 1999 (off and on I have 3 kids 6 and under!) with 1/2 ironman race coming up in October (my first since 2002) I recently underwent major abdominal surgery to remove part of my colon (I had diverticulosis with 3 flares of diverticulitis in 2 years) I'm now 1 1/2 weeks post surgery. So I'm fighting my way back to fit. As soon as the surgeon clears me I'll be back to running, cycling swimming and weights. I have lost 7 lbs since surgery but I don't recommend doing it this way! I think I've lost a but of muscle.

The good news is since you were an athlete prior to surgery you will retain your muscle longer than a sedentary person who has recently become active. And you should get back your fitness quickly. Hang in there!0
