trying to shift some baby weight...

Hi
I'm just joining up 3 months after having my first baby. I had really bad morning sickness all the way through, so I was actually a stone lighter on the day before I gave birth than I was when I got pregnant.
As soon as I was out of hospital, I found myself stuck in doors all day for weeks at a time. Post natal depression kicked in and the pounds piled on.
So my husband has given me a misfit shine to try and get me back on track and encourage me to get out of the house.
I must sound pathetic...!
I'd like to lose 5.5 stone, which will get me to the lower end of a healthy BMI. This is my ultimate goal, but anything that gets me a little lighter and a little fitter so I can keep up with my little one and i'm not an embarrassment is a plus.

You don't sound pathetic at all! Everyone has to start somewhere with this stuff.
5.5 stone is quite a big goal so try and break it down into little goals to help it feel less overwhelming. Perhaps think of it in terms of what you'd like to lose over the month? I aim for a monthly amount because, depending on when you weigh, you'll end up with little fluctuations on a daily/weekly basis, so I aim for the bigger picture (but not the overall one). Likewise, with your activity, don't aim for running a marathon by December, instead aim to run for 5 minutes straight by the end of the month or something like that. A little achievable goal that you will see weekly progress towards. I use the Couch to 5k program and I went for not being able to run for 60 seconds, to running for 3 minutes solid by my third week. I can see tangible progress with it and I find that motivating. I don't think too much about how fast I'm running, just that I am running - speed comes later!
Always make sure that whatever you're doing is sustainable. That's the most important thing. Plan your meals and make sure you work out a way to fit in the things you like to eat. Eating nothing but fruit and veg certainly might create a calorie deficit and you might lose weight, but you'll go back to your normal eating patterns soon enough and you might move into a surplus! The actual things I eat hasn't changed at all since I started a month ago - I still eat ice cream, pasta, pizza, sweets, etc - but the difference is that now I fit them into my calorie allowance. If I want ice cream and I don't have the calories to allow for it I have two options - go out for a walk/run with my fitbit to earn some more calories to eat, or I don't eat the ice cream. I tend to choose to exercise now because I know I can eat afterwards - some might say it's a strange motivation for exercise but it has worked for me. I exercise and I eat back my calories and I still end up a deficit for the day and I lose weight. So make use of your Shine in that way.
Ultimately, it works if you stick with it and I would say that getting into the habit of it is probably harder than actually doing it. Weighing and measuring everything accurately is a bit of work, sure, but the effort pays you back by making it easy to see how the work translates into weight lost.0 -
Hello, I am new to using this app. Wanted to be realistic about food etc and not be too silly by crash dieting. I have a lovely 9 week old who I am feeding. I lost all my pregnancy weight in the first 2 weeks but have now gained half 8lb :-(!! I have about 50lb in total to lose to be healthy weight as had gained a lot before pregnancy! Add me and we can motivate each other x0
