Has anyone ever heard of this? Go to a gym where they offer it?

It's a progressive & systematic training protocol using sandbags of varying size/weight with different handles on them for different exercises.

I've found it to be a great at home training compliment to my body weight exercises and just wondered if anyone else has ever heard of it.

Never heard of it. I had to search for it. It sounds like an interesting program. Having chucked around more than my fair share of sand bags I would guess that it would work just fine depending on what your final goal is. The main thing is, if you enjoy it. You are more likely to keep doing it. If your ultimate goal is gaining strength, then a program like StrongLifts 5x5 would be a good start and use the DVRT/USB on the lighter side to maintain good flexibility/mobility.

    Good Luck!

You'd make it easier to find fellow sandbag enthusiasts if you didn't use the trademarked name of a particular brand

I used this name specifically to find others that followed this system. I realize it's not that widely known, was just curious to find others on here. I'm a big fan and wanted other's opinions.

What is this system of which you speak?

Dynamic Variable Resistance Training (DVRT) It uses the Ultimate sand bags that have 7 different handles on them for the various exercises to perform. Besides bag sizes that range in weight from 5-200# there is a systematic methodology for making the exercises more difficult with body positioning etc before adding weight to the bags. I've been trying them out for almost a year and am planning to take the certification course later this summer. I think its very versatile exercise system either paired with another mode or as a stand alone.

As the owner of 4 Ultimate Sandbags I'm well aware of all this. But DVRT is still just a trademarked name for.....the same things you'll do with any sandbag you happen to own. Or make. Heck. I actually prefer the larger bags and fill them to halfway so that I'm able to grip the bag anywhere I please instead of the various handles. (the USB handles are great tho. I've destroyed filler bags but never the shell or handles. Terrific construction and I highly recommend them.)

Anyhoo. Whatever you wish to call the training protocol I'm a fan of the actual training. I love the versatility of sandbag workouts and the results they bring.
