A little help please?

Hey guys!

I decided to loose weight again and get healthy this time by putting 100% into this journey. I started this recent journey about 2 weeks but only downloaded this app yesterday. My problem with being overweight is I don't eat during the whole day and when I come in from work at 10 pm I just binge on everything. I decided to change this by waking up at like 10am and having warm lemon water alongside a fruit smoothie, I tend to eat a homemade chicken or tuna salad around 1-2pm and that is it for the whole day! I can not get myself to eat more as I have a fear that I won't loose weight and I will get into my old habits. It's also a bit tricky as I actually do NOT feel incredibly hungry at all, I drink lots of water during the day but my calorie count wont go higher than around 500-600 for the whole day. I haven't started excising yet as my time schedule is very hectic atm, what would you guys recommend? Are my current eating habits stopping me from loosing weight?

Thanks

    Hi

The only advice I would give you about not eating enough calories is that your body thinks that you are trying to starve it and will hold onto the fat. Please have a look at the link I have attached as this may help.

First, you LOSE weight. Second, no one got fat by not eating so somewhere along the way you've been able to eat. Set a budget, make sure you log all you food and start tracking. Schedule snacks and meals and plan ahead so you know exactly what you'll be eating. Trading in the habit of overeating for the habit of undereating is just as unhealthy. Even if you lose weight the way you're doing it that isn't a sustainable lifestyle.

Hey! I WAS this. I did this for years and years. I'm still not done with my weight loss journey, but if you don't eat enough food, your body will not lose weight. I fully believe that I have been eating <800 calories for 15 years or so. No more! Now I eat between 1300-1700 calories a day. It's hard! I can't believe how much food I am eating. Just different kinds of food. Lots of fruit, veggies, protein, nuts. No more fast food. I'm now losing about .5 lb a week. I know that doesn't sound nearly as much as the 2+/lb week that is promised, but I am doing it slow, and the right way. Definitely check out the link that Tanya linked below. It does make a huge difference.

This is not supported by science nor common sense.

I just hit a 2 week plateau and started troubleshooting by increasing my calories. Needless to say, the plateau has been broken and I started losing again. I was taking in around 1200 and not even touching my exercise calories (300-700 a day). I increased to 1300 and eat back almost all of my exercise calories now.

Just the fact that you eat very little during the day then are so hungry that you binge at night should tell you things aren't working for you. Maybe try to have a healthy snack every few hours to add up more calories. And add some fruit with your sandwich at lunch. Slowly redistribute your eating so you don't need to overdo it at night. You've gotten into a habit and it takes time to learn something new. Definitely up your calories with some items that are more calorie dense until you get to a healthier amount. Good luck.

I will share with you what I have read. I don't know how much evidence supports this but it seems to hold true for me.

I try to have an eating cut off time. At the very least I try to stop eating 2 or more hours before going to sleep. I do distribute my calories throughout the day, but try to eat lighter as the day goes on when possible. If you think about it, your body is geared to rev up during the day and slow down at night. If I eat heavier early in the day and lighter as the day goes on I tend to lose weight more effectively. Of course this goes along with healthy eating and getting plenty of exercise. When I eat heavier in the evenings and close to time to go to bed, I don't lose.

With the habits you have in place, you can't expect to change that over night. You may make a goal each week to make changes that you think you can stick with. If you are determined, you can do it! Think of every step you take, every decision you make as either moving you closer or further away from your goal. Only you can do this. No one else can do it for you.
