Hey guys,

First off here is a little about me:

My name is Nick B.

I have a pretty classic story when it comes to my personal fitness. I was always the chubby kid growing up and was frequently teased about my body growing up. It never really bothered me that much and I was actually able to use it to my advantage in sports. I have always been an athlete and loved playing primarily baseball and football growing up. Throughout high school I excelled in football and had dreams to play at the collegiate level. Unfortunately, in my senior season I suffered two shoulder dislocations in the first two games of the season. Needless to say, this severely limited my potential to play at the next level, especially since it required me to stop playing defensive end which was the position that I loved. Following the season I had surgery on the shoulder and ended up in physical therapy (PT). Throughout my rehabilitation physical therapy have me the knowledge and insight into treating my injury and getting back to playing the sports that I love. I didn’t go on to play in college but I was still able to participate in one of the state all-star games 6 months after I had completed my PT.

When I got to college I was pretty unsure about what I wanted to do in the future and like many other students thought that business seemed like a good fit for me. I quickly learned that economics would be the death of me and I needed a switch. Throughout my days playing sports I have always enjoyed training and particularly weight lifting. This personal interest sparked my motivation to get into a field in which I could incorporate my these interests. I quickly changed my major to human biology and things took off. I enjoyed learning the basic biology and was a true nerd for human anatomy and physiology. While I was educating myself for a future career this also lead to making changes in my personal lifestyle to better facilitate a healthy body and mind.
For the first time I actually had the knowledge and education to make the changes that I wanted in my life and see true results. Like many others, I’ve tried several fads, supplements, crazy workout routines, and lifestyle hacks. However, when it came to seeing real progress nothing got results like hard work, a positive mindset, and patience. This is where I think I have the ability to help others learn the same lessons.

Fast forward four years and I decided to apply to physical therapy school at the University of Montana in Missoula, MT. Throughout my three years in the doctoral education I have further sharpened my skills for assessment and examination of the human body but I have also expanded upon my knowledge to correct movement patterns, prescribe exercise, and inspire long-lasting change in the patients/clients that I am fortunate enough to work with. I recently passed the national physical therapy board examination and will have my official doctorate of physical therapy following graduation. To further strengthen my knowledge I chose to pursue a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and was awarded that certification in the summer of 2014.

I’ve spent many years educating myself in physical fitness, nutrition, and overall well-being. I started this website to share my personal thoughts and insights into creating a healthy, sustainable lifestyle that will hopefully help others to do the same for themselves. These days I think it is far too common to see people accepting the typical health dogmas and thinking that they can never adhere to such restrictive protocols in order to become healthier. Often times it only takes a basic understanding of movement, nutrition, and mindset to get 90% of the results. All that it takes is the motivation to start.

Any suggestions for future blog posts or feedback is greatly appreciated!
