Calories while cooking

While cooking I often take a small bite or so to see if things are ready, or if the food needs more seasoning. I really Don't feel like weighing it. Do I just guess-tamate calories? How do other people handle this?

I don't even bother logging it, because I log all the ingredients before I make whatever I'm making. And log as I go if I need to add more ingredients in.

For some people this isn't a big deal. For other people, such as myself, being accurate and consistent in tracking is imperative. I will use my digital kitchen scale to weigh each ingredient and then put everything into the recipe builder. I try and be mindful of those little licks and tastes whilst cooking, but if I absolutely must sample something to see if herbs or spices need adjustment I take either a toothpick or the tip of a butter knife and dip it into the food and take a taste. That way I'm not consuming food by the spoonfuls, because every taste has calories. Sure, it may not seem like a big deal, but if you do that every night for one month and each taste is at least 5 calories you're looking at an extra 150+ calories consumed that are not accounted for.

^^^ I'm just confused, if you log everything into the recipe builder with the intention of eating that food, then having a taste while cooking to see if the flavor is right is already accounted for.

I let others taste it...mainly because I am cooking for them.

but it depends on your deficit...if it's small...well those bites can make a difference...
    If it's large eh...
If you are 98% accurate with everything else...eh
I also take small sips etc as mentioned above...I cook a lot myself...so I can relate.
I think you just need to be aware of it...

If you're going to taste enough to eat a half a serving, then yeah, you should log it. But a bite or sip here and there doesn't add a signifigant amount. If you really feel you need to log it, manually add 25-30 calories and go with that.

Since I weigh hardly anything anyway, I just figure it is included with the serving size that I log.

Taste less at a time. You don't need a whole tablespoon of sauce to know if it's right or not

if it's just a taste bite, I'm thinking that's pretty negligible. none of this is that exact...

I just add 1/4 serving to my log.
