Don't I appreciate you saying that, even though it wasn't the Royal Canadian Air Force in which I served?

Don’t our countries often work together and therefore, I can appreciate both sides?

@Cat0703a, am I right that today is a work day for you?

Aren’t you remembering my former job correctly? Can I call my new one “new” still when I’ve been there 14 months now?

Oh, how could I forget? Shall I assume you've already had your coffee this morning?

Wouldn't you be correct if you assumed I am was enjoying a bottled vanilla frappuccino right now just then, after finishing a morning walk/run? 🏃‍♂️🚶‍♂️😅
    (9.5 ounces goes fast, doesn't it? 🫗)

Can you guess, was I delighted or disappointed when I recently received a summons for jury duty? 🤔😞
If you don't hear from me for a while, might it be because I'm on the jury for a long drawn out court case and the jury has been sequestered? Don't I hope that doesn't happen?
Don't I hope I show up in two hours, wait patiently during the jury selection process, don't get selected, and then get dismissed?
(Isn't the jury still out on whether or not I would even make a good juror?)

Haven't I been summoned for jury duty four times over the years, having served three times? Wasn't I the jury foreperson during the last go-round?

Do you know how annoying it is to have to work on Veteran's Day, thus missing out on all the free stuff being handed out that day, but only if you get there before my work day ended?

Aren't my wife and I a combined 5 for 5 in getting jury duty summons, only to be sent home during the selection process?

Isn't that funny? Haven't I never been sent home? Didn't my only instance of not having to serve stem from my second federal jury duty summons? Didn't I call in every day for 5 days until finally hearing, "You have fulfilled your jury duty service."?

During my last foray into the justice system, wasn't mine the first number pulled and didn't only 3 of the original 12 people seated remain at the end of the selection process?

Do you think maybe I have a face that looks like "impartial juror here?"

Is it perhaps stamped on your coffee mug, since we've never actually seen your face?

Aren't I at least showing a partial face Mr. Bicep? 😁 😉 (Aren't the emojis there so you know I'm just teasing?)

Didn't I just get home, after sitting through 6 nail biting hours of jury selection, with about 18 people dismissed for cause or peremptory, with each dismissal causing me to recalculate the probability of me being called in the dwindling jury pool? Aren't I happy to have been summoned numerous times but to have only served on one jury more than forty years ago? (Should I have not tempted fate by saying this?)

Today, didn't they seat 12 jurors and 6 alternates, and although more than three of the original twelve remained, weren't six dismissed, promoting the six alternates, then another ~twelve or so dismissed?
Since we started as a group of 60 potential jurors and 36 of us were called, aren't I thinking I should try my odds at Las Vegas? 😂

To the contrary, didn't I sit for 6 ½ hours through a jury selection process that was slow, tedious and sleep-inducing, apart from the anxious moments when they had to call up another person or two, only to be thanked and sent home at the end of the day? Aren't I relieved, especially since the judge said he was going to try to keep the trial to only four days?

Would you believe I had two very different experiences with jury selection just weeks apart?

Wasn’t it interesting way to get to see the contrast of the structure and rigidity of federal court against the chaos and disorganization of the state court?

My mother got summoned twice...once on her wedding day, once the day she was due to give birth...can you imagine how "pleased" she was on both occasions?

Did major life events like that not automatically exempt her?!
  • nossmf
    nossmf Posts: 12,015 Member
She was exempted the moment she arrived, but is it possible the current summons verbiage identifying exemptions was added as a result of her informing the murder-trial-judge there was about to be another murder in the courtroom if she wasn't excused?

Isn’t arriving in the middle of all that stressful enough on its own?
