Looking for support, tips, motivation, help!

Hi guys,
I'm 23 years old and one class away from graduation. With such a huge step happening soon I want to try and get healthy. I've always been overweight, have dieted and lost weight but always find myself giving up. I don't want to give up this time.
I work odd hours but I'm trying to cook as much food at home as possible. I'm also counting calories and going on long walks (for now) with a friend daily. I am also trying SO HArd to cut down on drinking
I would love friends who are going through the same thing and TIPS what's the best way to start off right!?
Keep in mind I have a college students budget.

Congrats on your future graduation well done! I include 2 recipes mainly cos they should be cheap and easy to make U can adjust them eg i leave out the avocado in the second recipe and it reduces the calorie content further). lentils cheap and easy and versatile. The salad makes a huge amount and cheap too. I just use canned black eye beans and canned sweetcorn. Just serve with a lean protein of your choice. http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/2649/cod-with-spicy-puy-lentils.aspx and http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/06/southwestern-black-bean-salad.html. ps re the drinking try to have gin and slimline tonic/ vodka and slimline tonic or vodka lime and soda. Or a white wine spritzer taller longer drinks less calories. ( I like a drink too)0

My number one tip.
Make twice as much (or more if you have the resources) as you eat for dinner and freeze a portion. Does two things, portion control and also if you're really hungry when you walk through the door you get nearly instant gratification. This especially works if you see something you want on deep sale. When the skinless/boneless chicken is $1.99 I buy it.
College eating on a budget tip: Find someone with a warehouse card and go shopping with them. Or split the cost of a membership between you and whoever. It doesn't have to be one person either. If you all eat chicken or low fat beef or carrots or whatever, get a pack, split it 2/3/4 ways. Much, much cheaper to buy stuff that way. My daughter does this with 3 other girls she knows. And look for discounts. She once got a bunch of frozen veggie medley for $2 a bag (bags are 36oz). They bought them all and stuffed 'em in every person's freezer they knew . Haha. Funny but it was really effective. You can do all kinds of stuff with them.
