I've been dealing with weight issues on and off over the years but it has suddenly hit me how much weight I have put on over the last couple and it's put me in shock. I am currently the biggest I've ever been and am feeling quite out of control and down about it as I can't seem to make myself stop eating the bad things!
Looking for anyone who's felt like this before and some advice on how I can push myself into changing my current lifestyle to a much happier and healthier one!
Thanks

I know how you feel, I'm the biggest I've ever been atm too and it's not a good feeling.
I guess the first thing you need to do is see your new 'diet' as a new way of life and not a temporary thing. If once you've lost the weight you return to the way you're eating now you'll put it all back on again.0 -

Quoted for truth!
OP, no food by itself is good or bad (except probably things with trans fats); it's only good or bad as part of an overall diet. If you call some foods "bad" and try to avoid them entirely, it becomes easier to give into cravings when you do have them, and to binge. My wife loves chocolate, and has one or two small squares every day. It would be bad if she had one or two bars. I love cheese, and have a half ounce or an ounce for dessert a few days a week.
With foods that are high in calories, good questions to ask (courtesy of Dr. Yoni Freedhoff) are, "Do I want this now?" and "How much of this do I need to eat to feel satisfied?" In his book The Diet Fix, he even talks about giving his patients prescriptions for chocolate, because so many of them equated losing weight with dieting, which for them meant renouncing things they liked.
I realized 7 years ago, after my father died, that I had put on quite a lot of weight since my 20s (as in, over 85 pounds). I initially decided to try to exercise more and "eat right." I took off 15-20 pounds, very slowly, and then gained some of it back. In January 2013 I discovered this site, made a commitment to myself to actually lose weight, and started weighing, measuring, and logging my food. I didn't exercise more, because I was already exercising sufficiently. I lost 47 pounds in my first year, and 18 in my second year, and am now close to what I weighed 20 years ago.
I only made two changes to my diet:
1. I switched from cereal to toast for breakfast, because 150 calories of buttered toast keeps me feeling sated longer than 300 calories of cereal with milk.
2. I counted calories and simply ate less of the foods I was already eating.
Sometimes #2 did involve shifting priorities: I might have more vegetables with dinner because they're filling, rich in nutrients, and low on calories. But I still ate (and eat) pizza, beer, brats, wine, ice cream, burgers, and other "bad" foods—just less of them, and not as often.0 -
I feel the same way. I went through losing quite a bit of weight after each pregnancy (and I'm really huge when pregnant) but this time I don't have any reason to have gained so much. I want to turn things around now before I make things any harder on myself.0

Ten years ago, after having my first child, I put in a tonne of effort to lose my extra weight. Lost 60 lbs and went down to 135. Felt great about myself. Got pregnant a few years later with baby number 2, gained a bunch of weight back, and stopped caring and kept gaining. Two years ago, had baby #3, and afterwards realized what I had done. Over the 10 years since I had lost all my weight, I had gained it all back, and much more besides. I was at 224 pounds (and i'm 5'1, so that's quite obese). I went through a spell of absolutely hating myself. I would stand in front of the mirror and cry, call myself disgusting. I hated myself. I knew that was the point i had to do something about it, and stop the self-pity.
You need to want to get healthy and lose the weight enough to commit to eating better and getting in physical activity. Hating yourself won't get the weight off. Commit to a healthier lifestyle, baby step by baby step, and you will lose the weight.
Good luck. If you want to friend me, please go ahead. I'm still a work in progress, but still pushing through day by day to get healthier, smaller, and fitter.0 -

Four years ago I had a huge wake-up call when I went to the doctor. I saw my weight and was very upset. I had to get a new driver's license picture. I cried when I saw how big I was. I lost around 24 pounds and got pregnant. Then I kind of stayed around the same weight, had another baby and I was at my lowest weight after I had him. Then in like 3-4 months I gained 30 pounds!! I went to the doctor for the first time in a long time and saw that my weight was near what it had been years ago and decided that I HAD to change my diet. I really watch what I eat, try to eat things low in fat, etc. I've lost around 12 pounds in twoish months and I am so much happier seeing results already.0
