Has anyone just lost weight from exercise biking?

Im investing in an exercise bike to help shift the lbs however I was wondering if its possible to lose a lot (20lb) of weight just with one or would it just tone up my legs?

Your diet will cause you to lose weight, not really the cycling. But the cycling will give you an edge.
    You'll certainly reap fitness benefits.

When I was doing the recumbent bike at the gym fairly often I definately saw more definition in my legs. I like to do the interval settings. (I lost weight too. I think it was combination of factors (diet is really important) but the biking helped)

I enjoy cycling but I will tell you I burn way more calories walking briskly than I do riding. It takes me almost twice as long to burn the number of calories biking as it does walking.

My advice? Skip the exercise bike and start walking more. If you are set on purchasing exercise equipment get a treadmill for cardio/calorie burns. you will get more out of it.

Either do the above, or if you have your mind set on a bike, get a spinning/indoor cycling bike, and not a recumbent or regular exercise bike...Very little cardio burn on those..... Do squats and lunges - you will see a lot more shape to your legs than with a bike...
  • I use a recumbent exercise bike (Schwinn) both to tone my legs (had both knees replaced 2 years ago) and to burn calories. It will definitely do the former and how you do the workouts will determine whether you burn enough calories to make a difference. (Remember that if you just add food to make up for the extra exercise, you won't lose any weight.

In my case, I took 4 months to build up my time and effort level. I now am doing 60 minutes each of five days a week, and have my calorie burn level (at least what the bike tells me) averaging 700 calories a day -- today 765, for example, averaging 90 revs at level 7. It's not a trivial workout, but it works for me. 3500 calories a week is the equivalent of a pound a week, so it really helps to allow me to eat more and stay the same weight, or cut back and lose.

It will work if you put the effort into it. Otherwise it's an expensive clothes rack.
