Does your brain ever randomly attack you?

Lately (not something I've noticed that much previously) my mind seems to flicker to a memory from the past, which is weird, because I'm not seeing or being anywhere that would trigger a memory at the time, and the specific memories are not actually of experiences or something you'd think you would remember for years, but something small and neutral in nature, like the other day I saw an image in my mind of me just walking down a street near where I used to live about 5 or 6 years ago, probably going to catch a bus or shopping, or uni, whatever it was. There have been several of them as well probably in the last few weeks, and some were just flashes of a memory of something that hurt me, again without cue, and the memory then caused pain on thinking of it and I was left thinking "What!? why did that come to mind?" then need to shake it off.
Just wondering if that happens to anyone else? It seems a bit weird like maybe my brain is malfunctioning or something. :???:

You should embrace that long cognitive memory. Maybe reacting negatively the way you do it causes the headache cause it takes a lot of brain power to reach back that far to begin with?

I dream vividly about things in my childhood . . . people, places, things I did . . . but, can't remember what I was going for when I leave one room and go into another. Really freaky, have to go back into the other room to remember why I left it in the first place. Good memories make me 'laugh' . . . sometimes 'out loud'. My husband has woken me up from a dream that I was either 'laughing' in or 'talking' in. I've even 'excused myself' out of a dream and get up and back in bed and picked it up from where I left off. Now, that is really 'freaky'. I have a mini-reunion with several of my HS friends every 3 months. We laugh about a lot of things and we are also very supportive of one another even though we don't live near one another.
