Those last stubborn pounds!!

Hi all,
I have a holiday coming up (24th June). I have been trying to lose weight and tone up - ive lost a total of a stone and a half so far. I've always done home workout dvds such as Jillian Michaels, Insanity etc. I am now 4 weeks into Focus T25. Although I'm happy with my progress so far, I'm still carrying those last few stubborn pounds that just wont budge!! Does anyone have any tips to get rid of these, and maybe healthily fast track the weight loss & toning before the end of June? Any help appreciated

weight loss comes from your calorie deficit...exercise is for health and fitness. Just ensure you are logging accurately and in a reasonable deficit.
You can't "fast track" healthy weight loss.0 -

Exercise burns calories. Side effects are health and fitness, but if you burn 500 calories a day exercising, that's a pound a week that you will lose.0 -

Exercise a LOT! Not only will you lose weight, but you will feel better.0 -
if you want to make it quicker, create a bigger deficit. If you want your weight loss to last, make sure you create this deficit by making lifestyle changes that you actually like. replace high calorie snacks/beverages with low calorie ones that you (can learn to) enjoy just as much and do exercise that you love.
don't try to do it on willpower alone, it won't give you the long term results that you want.0 -
Make sure you are eating at a deficit. Watch your portion sizes.0

unless you are eating 500-1000 over maintenance.
breathing burns calories...being in a deficit ensures weight loss and you don't need exercise for that...and no where did I say it didn't help...0 -

You said exercise is for health and fitness. Nowhere did you include "losing weight". Exercise helps me lose weight, and I assume it does for other people. This would be additional exercise to breathing. If not breathing, I doubt exercise would help very much.0 -
My weight loss has slowed dramatically
115 lbs gone. Now it is 20 or so and maybe adding muscle here and there
Some call it body contouring thru exercise.
It takes a little time and patience. Of course eating right and exercising intelligently will help!
For me after getting in basic shape and dropping most of the weight, my trainer highly recommend HIIT.
I hated it at first but she was right. 24 minutes of HIIT three times a week is work and it is helping me to keep slowly dropping lbs of fat.
The fat you pinch on your abdomen and thighs... So I know I'm not dropping muscle.
Stick with it and don't let a plateau get you down!

because you don't need to exercise to lose weight and just because you are exercising doesn't mean you will lose weight.

How do you know if you are in a deficit...accurate logging...that is why I said...ensure you are logging accurately

Thank you for your replies so far! They've helped a lot. I try to eat at a deficit and eat healthy most of the time. I have the odd cheat meal whe birthdays etc come up, but who doesn't?! I think I need to really look into the "deficit" some of you mention. Perhaps I am eating too much (although good food) which offsets the work I put in when exercising. Say my maintenance calories are 1500 (for example) and I want to lose a pound a week (so take off 500 calories per day) - does this mean my NET calories (after exercise) should be 1,000? Or before exercise?0

If your maintenance was 1500 (not likely unless you are tiny) you need a deficit of 500 a day to lose 1lb a week...if you exercise you eat those calories back as your deficit is built in already.
To illustrate for you...my diary is open so feel free to look.
Yesterday I logged 1691 food calories, exercised 508 calories away...net was 1183 (close to 1200).
I Have my diary set at 1500 which means I am set to lose 1/2lb a week before exercise because MFP gives you NEAT calories which is the amount you need to eat without exercise...exercise adds in food to eat hence why I was at 1691 yesterday and will still lose weight..
Exercise is not a bad thing it's great and I do a lot of it but I realize I can exercise all I want but if I am not below maintenance at the end of the day it won't help me lose weight...
ETA: IT doesn't matter the kinds of calories you eat...it's the amount.0 -

Other than switching to DP10 most of the time instead of regular Dr Pepper, my loss is due to smaller portions of exactly the same food, not replacing high calorie food with low calorie substitutes. Well, that and eating a lot more yogurt to get protein without fat.

OP named numerous ways she was exercising, and said she was losing. She is down to the last few pounds and was asking advice on that.0 -
MFP has calculated 1690 calories burned doing my day to day activities, and has suggested a new calorie intake of 1200 to create a deficit of 490 and lose 1pound per week. I've tried to change it to lose 2 pounds per week but it keeps saying the same - 1200 net intake. I don't usually eat any more than 1500 calories a day and I burn around 300 (if not more) when exercising and walking the dog, yet still cant lose those last few pounds. Its very frustrating.0

Stubborn pounds are that way for a reason. There is no speeding up losing them. And it can be very tricky to do so even with just holding a deficit.0

Yes OP is exercising a lot but yet in the OP there was this part where the last few pounds won't budge..so they have stopped losing even with exercise...so exercise is not helping create the deficit required to lose those last few pounds which is what I've been saying...
