Lower Body Injuries?

Hi,

About two weeks ago, I broke several bones in my right foot while (attempting) to run. I'm now on crutches with the robo-cop boot, non weight bearing. This limits me somewhat on workouts. I am not clear for swimming, so I'm trying to focus on upper body and abs. Thanks to searching the forum, I've found youtube "wheelchair workouts", which has been great, even if the cardio is a little soft.

Anyway, I'm wondering if there are others out there working with the same hurdles who would like to exchange support and ideas. It would be great to just see another's diary for food ideas (I HATE not being able to eat like I could when I exercised!) or exercise routines that I may have not thought of. I'm swimming in questions like "should I count all the crutching around I did at work today?". So, fellow crutchers, wheelers, knee scooterers, heavy boot luggers, friend this crutch virgin.

Thanks!
Amy

It will take time.. if you are going to run.. get a program ( couch25K is great) and good shoes and start slow...in the mean time do upperbody work to keep yourself focused. Injury sucks ( coming from someone with reallyyyyy bad knees) but hang in there.. you will heal and will be able to start walking and slowly increasing..

Thanks for the responses. Ienkearney, "bump" is when you reply to a post and it makes it pop up again in the "recent topics". Doesn't seem to be anyone else with foot/leg injuries scoping the boards, so for now I will just keep on doing what I've been doing. Thanks, Coyoteldy. I was doing a version of that...I just landed on a tree root and turned my foot. Hang in there with those knees!

I have seen some "arms only" machines at the gyms I have worked at, perhaps those are an option

Also, having been on crutches more times than I care to count, I find just getting around on them is a workout! maybe try "walking" around the block on your crutches, or farther if you are up to it :) I find I can get pretty fast on those things too and that can also be a workout lol

There is one gym I know of nearby that has that arm machine. I really am considering signing up for a month (if a short term membership is possible) just for that! Normally, I work out at home and right now do not belong to a gym. And you're right, crutching wears me out!
