I think there are reasons for an indoor workout vs an outdoor workout also. My daughter loves running, but has terrrible allergies that give her a rash when she is outside, especially sweating.

Personally, I don't like running, but I like to dance, so I take Zumba and other dance type aerobics.

If I must use a machine, it is the elliptical and I set the tension and move it. I can definitely feel it.

FYI, I have been told treadmills are not good for knees because they pull your leg back.

Outside is better than inside any non-rainy day of the week. Only reason to stay in the gym is if you're rehabilitating and need that control. Or I guess allergies. Just wear waterproof sunblock

cardio inside is boring...I do it only in the winter when the weather is too bad to ride...and it has to be pretty bad.

I go for outside because of better scenery. The machines do not add any assistance, though depending on the machine, they can limit range of motion or provide more control and if needed add a measurable amount of resistance, which if you are trying to rehab can be useful.

So it is really your personal preference.

    Good Luck!

I prefer indoor cardio mostly due to asthma complications with out door allergies in the warm part of the year and it being too cold during that 2 months it's not warm were I live.

Walking outside and exploring is fun or biking. But when it comes to running or jogging I prefer to have a consistent pace with a treadmill

It's completely personal preference. I like running outside in the evenings or early morning when it's a bit dark when I can. I normally can't due to work schedules so if I have to do cardio at home it's walking on the treadmill. I am not a video or group class person.
