Push through extreme soreness, or rest?

Probably a dumb question but I honestly don't know...
I'm normally more of a cardio person who mostly just runs on the treadmill. Yesterday I began Jillian Michaels Ripped in 30 using 5 lb weights. It was a challenge during but I didn't feel like I did THAT much, ya know?
As yesterday progressed, I noticed I was becoming increasingly sore. This morning I literally felt like I had been hit by a truck. I have muscles hurting that I'm not even sure I knew I had!
It's to the point that going up and down the stairs to my office kill me, and that's after taking 2 Aleve this morning. I hate to whine, but if someone dropped a million dollars cash on the ground in front of me, I would have to really debate bending down to pick it up lol
Needless to say, I skipped working out this morning. She says to do it 5-6 days per week. My question is should I push through it? I'm new to strength training and I know "no pain no gain," and I used to be a Marine so I can make myself do it, but didn't know if you become that sore and you push through is it actually detrimental? Push through or skip today...hate to skip on day 2!
Plus I gained 1.2 pounds from yesterday, which I assume is all water in my muscles, which clearly flipped out!

I have suffered with doms in the past. I literally feel your pain! Different things will work for different people. For me it's this:
Protein shake an hour before training, warm up and cool down properly, cold shower post workout and have another protein shake before bed. The next day walk. Do something to stretch your body and keep it all moving.
It's taken me 2 years to figure it out and I'm still often stiff a day or 2 after a really good training session. Hopefully it won't take as long for you to figure out what works for you!0 -
Completely normal when trying something new! I find a hot bath helps and I generally just push through the aches, they will subside. It can take around 3 days for DOMS to ease but I always feel its a good hurt! sounds strange to say that but it means I'm working the muscles out good0

I'm consuming a rather small amount of protein daily as is so I ordered a low calorie whey protein powder. Maybe if I do a shake before workout (I was thinking after but I've read both so I don't know anything about it personally) and another before bed, like you said. Thanks!0

Despite being so incredibly uncomfortable, I do admit it made me know I did something!

It really depends on the type of pain. If it's just your muscles screaming at you because you abused them yesterday then I say work through it. In my considerable experience with DOMS, the day after hurts, the day after that hurts more and on the third day I'm usually back to normal. Repeating the torture on the first day after, but at a lower intensity, usually helps me to hurt less on that second day. Stretching and a foam roller also help.0

DOMS are normal in the beginning, but I would personally work up to the 5-6 days per week. Get into things and maybe do it 3x this week giving yourself rest days in between...build up to things.0
