Losing weight is about calorie deficit.

Weight loss comes from a calorie deficit.

If you want to workout (for your health), kickboxing is great if it something you'll stick with.

I have been kickboxing, boxing and practicing MMA for two years. I lost most of my weight before I started the program. I have to say that kickboxing dramatically increased my overall strength, edurance and focus and it, along with lifting weights, helped me to tone my muscles. A 60 minute routine, depending upon how much effort one puts forth and how much one weighs can burn up to 600 calories. I can tell you that with legitamate boxing, people who haven't done it don't necessarily think it's a great workout. I'd love to see those people go a 2 minute round let alone 3. The longest 3 minutes of your life

    we did ..

kickboxing has nothing to do with weight loss. You need a calorie deficit. If you want to add in kickboxing for health, fitness, enjoyment reason, then fine. however, you cannot out kick box a calorie surplus.

    end thread

I don't do kickboxing but I do practice a martial art. Yes it helps with weight loss...to a point. Added exercise of any kind will help to increase your calorie deficit as long as you are still paying attention to how much you are eating vs how much you are burning. The nice thing is the added exercise allows you to eat more and still loose by eating back some of your workout burns.

For me taking up a martial at was not about loosing weight. It was more for the personal development that comes with it. I do it simply because I really love doing it. The fact that it happens to be a pretty good workout is just a bonus. I did loose a little weight (around 20 pounds) over my first few years of training but significant weight loss really didn't happen until I started tracking calories.

    Hi
I have just started doing Taebo and so far have only done it three times....and have lost 1.8pounds which is a lot for me;).......I know its all about calories in/out. but I find Taebo has burned quite a few calories for me in a 1hr 30mins, more than a lot of other fitness dvds I have done......I hoping Taebo is my answer;)

    No he's not

but your question is 'Did kickboxing help you lose weight?" and his answer is correct

You lose weight based on the food you put in your mouth

You cannot out-exercise a bad diet

So if you love kickboxing do it, if it gets you pumped up and you'll stick at it keep going for it and getting better .. that's brilliant .. it's a good cardiovascular activity .. you may well earn a few hundred calories that you can eat

but get your diet right because that's what you lose weight on

Do not use a HRM to judge calorie burn on anything other than steady-state cardio because it will be out, massively ... if you want a rough estimate of the calories you actually burned take 50% of the stated burn

    But sounds like fun

I use a HRM for Taebo, and I know your are most likely correct in saying that the burn inst correct, but seeing the high calorie burn makes me wanna do it again ;-).....I know its cheating myself ;-)...

Kickboxing helps to burn calories, however if you're consuming more calories than you burn, it will always result in weight gain. There are lots of fat kickboxers out there as well as thin ones. The difference between the 2 is their diets.
Remember that all exercise is specifically for fitness and health. Calorie deficit is for weight loss.
