Ketogenic diet....Ketards Unite!!!!

Hey all Im a fitness pal beginner on a ketogenic diet.

If any of you out there are on a keto diet to treat mental illness, epilepsy, cancer, diabetes, weight loss or simply because you
want to have the healthiest brain at the party I'd love to be your MFP friend.
Also if a ketogenic group already exist please let me know I'd love to join.
At its most basic the ketogenic diet allows one to flood the brain with healthy essential fatty acids. It also allows the body to produce
ketone bodies which the brain & heart actually prefer as fuel to glucose.

I know that paleo, low carb & keto are regarded with much suspicion these days & rightly so, as they go against conventional thinking. Nothing wrong with a bit of cautious scepticism! However what a lot of folks fail to realise is that John Hopkins hospital & Mayo clinic in the states have been treating very sick people ( many children) with this diet successfully for over 30 years. This is because it is the only diet known to prevent neurological seizures in kids with epilepsy, treat schizophrenia & psychosis, huntingtons, parkinsons etc. The list becomes greater all the time. Even people with autism & cancer have benefitted from the ketogenic diet. The wonderful side effect is that it also stimulates weight loss.
I'm not going to bother referencing you can all check this out on the net yourselves. One thing I will add is that being in a state of 'ketosis' ( a state where your body is producing ketones & using them for fuel instead of glucose) should not be confused with the highly dangerous condition known as 'ketoacidosis' in which someone with diabetes ( prob only type 1? Not sure) is ALSO producing ketone bodies but for completely different reasons. If ketone bodies are detected in the blood or urine of a diabetic then that can be a sign that that their body is faling to remove glucose from the blood stream which is of course a very dangerous medical emergency. No wonder so many are cautious about ketosis & ketones. it stands to reason.

So, ketosis= good , ketoacidosis= bad. Many Gps are very badly educated in this area as they simply do not have the time to keep up with anything outside of new drugs & drug therapies.

Be bold! Research ketosis & see what you think & dont be afraid to chat with me if you're using it to battle mental illness- your candour may just save someone else's life!

So looking forward to connecting with other 'ketards'
