Welcome! The tools here on MFP such as the calorie counter, exercise tracker are great! I would say just to make healthy choices, including healthy snacks. Be sure you get enough protein, carbs; not too much fat, sugar. Lean meats, fish, veggies, fruits, whole grains, etc. is the way to go. You can find lots of great tips, recipes, etc. here too. Good luck on your journey!!

Welcome to MFP! The best advise I can give you in the beginning is "Take your time". Be in the mind set that this is not a "Diet" it's a change of routine of how you eat/exercise. It's going to take some time but enjoy the ride by enjoying each new step you make towards your final goal. Good Luck!

Be sure to start slow on you exercise routine. Too often, new people try to do too much, too quickly, and end up hurting themselves or making themselves so tired that they lose motivation to keep working out. Yes, it will be slightly more difficult at first, but by sticking to a steady schedule and easing into a workout routine, it will get easier. The fact that you have a partner is great first step. I always said that having a partner who is more motivated than you is a great way to keep to your schedule.

Also, do not be discouraged if you don't lose weight the first week or two. Everyone's body is different, and some people's take more time to show weight loss than others. Don't let it bother you if the scale doesn't change immediately. If you stick to your exercise program and eat appropriately, you WILL see results.

    Good luck to you.
