The weekend challenge

The weekend is approaching and along with it, the challenge to avoid overeating.
I would really appreciate any tips from you. Secrets that keep you on track.
Hubby and I had planned to go to dinner at a sports bar featuring prime rib. When I checked the calories in a prime rib dinner, I suggested that we go to a different restaurant that features a delicious spinach salad.
I feel vindicated by making that choice, but feel guilty for depriving hubby of the prime rib. How do you plan for those weekend outings that seem to always have food at the center?
I am just starting this program. This my 21st day, so I don't want to sabotage myself before giving it my total effort.
At the rate I want to lose, I will need at least a year. Is it okay to overindulge one day and cut back a corresponding number of calories the next few days?

I eat less Monday - Thursday so I can eat more on the weekend.0
