I'd be curious to her your thoughts on what you feel is an optimal macronutrient ratio for preserving lean body mass while strength training in a deficit for fat loss?

Not OP, but you breathe it out. Carbon is excreted through respiration.

Watch Dr. Who. Adipose toddles off to a large corporate building to wait for the mother ship to come pick it up. Oddly enough, it's adorable after leaving the body.

I usually make my tortillas with oil but should I lose this fat and go traditional with lard? I'm finding they aren't as pliable as store bought tortillas.

Do I detect a bit of pessimism and skeptics among us? :noway:

    yes.. losing fat....three questions:

I'm wondering about the large quantity of water that I'm drinking..and most of it tap water... the flouride in most tap water seems to be aggravating my hypothyroidism..and slowing down my metabolism even more...

(I had read where flouride used to be used as treatment for hyperthyroidism or overactive thyroids)

    1. so is it better to buy a filter for my tap or start splurging for bottled water or is the fluoride hype not much of a factor?
    2. at what point is my cardio interfering with my muscle building?

I want to build as much muscle as possible to increase my metabolism and look good, especially since I'm in danger of losing muscle quickly because I'm over 50...but at this point, it seems like fat loss is the bigger problem for me so should I increase cardio and not worry about the muscle bullding as much?

I'm currently doing 3x a week a 10 minute cardio warmup before a 30 minute intense weight lifting session with a personal trainer then follow it up with 30 minutes of cardio (either treadmill, elliptical or row machine.
2x a week I try to get in calisthenics with 8 rounds of each (squats, mountain climbers, push ups, sit ups) to the tabata timer (tabatatimer.com) but I haven't been totally regular with that part of the work outs and on weekends I usually do yard work but now that weather is turning nice I'll be adding biking or walking as well.

    3. What would be your recommendation for workout schedule to maximize my stalled fat loss?

    Thanks!:flowerforyou:

i'd love to chime in on this...i found alternating days of 15% fat, high carb on strength days with small deficit (or slight surplus); 15% carb, but never more than 30% fat, on rest days with larger deficit, getting at least 15g of essential fatty acids (cla, dha, etc) and keeping protein at at least 1.5gm/lb LBM EVERY day while running an overall calorie deficit for the week, works great and even possibly allows for an increase in LBM with proper nutrient timing

How long does it take my body to go into "starvation mode"? Is it that detrimental to have a 1,000 calorie day now & then?

I use a VERY small amount of evoo, way less than the recipe calls for and they still turn out good

hm good tip. i hadn't made homemade flour tortillas in forever because of the lard. but evoo we always have. gonna try it. would you say you're using like a fourth of the amount? oh what the hay it's just flour and water, not expensive to make a few mistake batches. Thanks!

Typed it on my phone guys so come on give me a break haha!! sooo this will be a warning kinda !

EXCUSE MY GRAMMAR!! I AM TYPING ALL OF THIS ON MY PHONE AND IT'S QUITE DIFFICULT...
I'd be curious to her your thoughts on what you feel is an optimal macronutrient ratio for preserving lean body mass while strength training in a deficit for fat loss?

Following a specific ratio isn't quite the brightest idea! However, there are the guidelines for macronutrients.

    Protein : 1g ~ 1.4 g per body weight !

    Fat : 0.3g ~ 0.4 g per body weight !

Carbs : the rest of your calories!

    For example a 150 lbs male on a 2200 calories diet ! 150 p / 60 f / 265 c

(girls usually should be on a high fat diet so go for 0.4g/ per 1 lbs body weight and a bit lower protein like 0.8 g / per 1 lbs body weight )

Now if you are going to ask what caloric intake should i go for.. Every person is quite different, you need to find your maintenance and work your way from there!

Pretty decent website and found it pretty accurate most of the time ( http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm )

would taking a leptin stimulator supplement help me lose the last 5-10 pounds I can't seem to get off?

Supplements are worthless and a waste of money in my opinion! The only way you will lose weight is by a caloric deficit!! Your question is not really specific ! How long have you been dieting and what's your workout routine ?
    What's the capital of Malaysia?

    New york brah

    3. What would be your recommendation for workout schedule to maximize my stalled fat loss?

    Thanks!:flowerforyou:

1)I really doubt tap water will make that much of a difference! However, if you do not feel comfortable drinking tap water buy one of those water filters that are reusable! I personally use them, they're quite great and cheap ! (It's saves you from wasting both money and plastic (recycle if you use plastic :P))

2)A decent lifting routine should be the base and foundation for your workouts! Cardio should only be only be used as one of plenty ways to put you at a deeper caloric deficit if you're dieting(Aside from the 10 mins warm up which is fine and great btw)! Yes >>>TOO MUCH<<< cardio will affect your body composition negatively in my opinion ! Look and compare marathon runners to sprinters and you'll understand what i mean! Tons of cardio suppress your metabolism and your body lose plenty of muscle in the process! (Answered the cardio part)

    Marathon%20Runner%20vs%20Sprinter.jpg

2)...continued Muscle building is quite tricky, yet simple! In Order for you to build lots of muscle you need to be in a caloric surplus. You tend to lose a bit of muscle if you're in a caloric deficit.. Before you rush and say what about the people who are dieting and still have noticeable muscle gains. That's because they are experiencing what's called noob gains! It's like a honeymoon phase muscle comes sweet and easy but once it's over it's a whole different story :D ! (Answered muscle part)

3)My recommendation is have a full body split lifting routine (since you're a beginner).. Focus on lifting and track your strength! Aside from the measurements or size, strength increase is also a sign of you gaining muscle! Also the most important part is your diet !! A slow flexible diet !! I'd recommend you get a book written by lyle mcdonald called "flexible dieting" !! You'll love it, i assure you :) !
How long does it take my body to go into "starvation mode"? Is it that detrimental to have a 1,000 calorie day now & then?

Why would you want to do that lol ? The question you're asking is like saying "is it painful if i stabbed myself lol".. It's not healthy! Your weight loss plan will fail because you're body will literally fight you and hold to every ounce of fat ! It will also gain a ton of weight the second you eat ! Dieting should be slow and steady !! For some reason a lot of people live years unhealthy then suddenly want to change all of that in a couple of month... Take it easy champ and diet in a healthy way!

picture isn't working! Google marathon runner vs sprinter, you'll be quite shocked !! Also i believe your cardio is alright if it's only 3 x a week for 30 mins ! Mind me asking what kind of cardio is it :O ?
