Dumbest thing you've heard about nutrition and exercise recently

So we've all heard some howlers. What's the one you've heard most recently that made your brain hurt?
This morning I stumbled across a thread on a different forum. Op had posted a screenshot of someone stating that smoothies are pure sugar. That the action of making a smoothie turns everything (vitamins and fibre) into sugar and nothing else. They were agreeing with it and even those objecting where saying they must have been talking about juicing. I mean really?

A friends girlfriend told me that alcohol will make you gain weight, unless you get so wildly trashed that you "body goes into freak out mode and totally goes into burn off mode, and ends up burning all your calories for the day". Her 'proof'? Being a kilo lighter the day after a huge binge. She refused to consider it was just huge dehydration.0

That you can eat whatever you want as long as you are in calorie deficit and still be healthy, so I said if I ate 1200 calories worth of snickers and that's all I ate all day I would be healthy because I am in deficit - the answer was yes!0

Were they confusing 'being healthy' with 'losing weight'? Because you could eat 1200 cals of snickers a day (and nothing else) and still lose weight... I can't imagine anyone saying you'd be healthy, however.0 -
you wouldn't lose weight eating five snickers a day due to the fat and sugar content alone! The calories are irrelavent in this instance you would also be extremely hungry which would have an impact on your metabolism why do people live and die by this calorie deficit rule its insane0
-
Um, no - if you were eating 1200 calories a day, you'd lose weight, no matter what you were eating. You'd be wildly nutritionally deprived after a bit but you'd lose weight. Sorry, but science says you're wrong.0

thread title and debate about the science of calorie deficit - lol0

I think I would rather eat my greens than get hopped on artificial ingredients, sugar and fat just so that I can 'keep my treats' health should take presidence and all I ever read is oh I had candy today but I am in deficit, I had cookies today but I am in deficit people obviously don't care too much about what they put inside thier bodies0
-
You must be a blast at parties. I'll keep my 55lb loss and the delicious square of dark chocolate I just ate, thanks.0
-
No offence but I have never had 55lbs to lose, ever!-5
-
Again, blast at parties. You're a real peach.0
-
I'm a realist, gorging on treats is what gets people into this situation in the first place I will take my health and fitness over a peice of chocolate anyday!-1

Can I nominate this ^ post for the thread?
For the record, I have never seen anyone who believes in CICO state that anyone does, or should, eat only candy every day. And if you have seen a post that does support that, kindly link it here.

How many calories does being a judgmental, high horse riding 'realist' burn?0
-
Not everyone here is on a weight loss journey, some people use the app as a tool (like me) to keep track being on a diet on and off for 18 years sounds like maybe using your own advice hasn't worked for you I'm not judgemental because I place health over eating unhealthy things. I could drop dead tomorrow but I would rather take my chances at living longer and healthier by being mindful about what i put into my body, being kind to myself is what I consider 'a treat' by treating it well and giving it what it needs over mindless indulgences-1
-
No, not judgmental at all. Judgmental would be taking veiled digs at someone for having to lose 55lbs, then reading their profile to have a go at them... oh wait.
You're right. I want to be just like you.0 -
Not everyone is on a weight loss journey, but everyone has to abide by community guidelines:
4. Show Respect to All Groups and Individuals
No derogatory references to sex, gender, age, weight, body-type, disability, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation, or endorsement of violence against any person or group, even if couched in humor, will be permitted. This includes expressing stereotypes about any group or community.
That includes derogatory comments about weight, or stereotypes about people who are overweight.0 -
You wanted to take a swipe at me with your weight loss/chocolate comment I never said anything about you personally until yur snidy attempt at sarcasm so don't dish it out it you can't take it!-11

Its fascinating that when people take swipes at slimmer people nobody says a word! lol

I will donate it to somebody who needs it more than me0

Actually, we do. I've given out warnings for it. Now, if we could all please move on, contribute constructively to the OP or move on without posting so I don't have to hand out any more warnings, that'd be great.0 -
You can burn 75 calories an hour arguing.

Has nothing to do with whether you are slim or not, darlin'.0 -

The part in bold is one of the least accurate statements I've seen in a while.0 -
When I hear, "Muscle weighs more than fat". Really?!? If we're discussing density, that's different, but if we're talking simply about which one weighs more....uuuuuugghhh!!!! 16 ounces of chocolate weighs EXACTLY THE SAME as 16 ounces of chicken breast.
When I hear muscle weighs more, I swear I start to twitch!0 -

Or how about "If you're not losing weight, you might be gaining muscle," (usually because they're walking 3x a week or something similar)

My brain really hurt on:
I could not lose weight eating 1200cal (or some low amount) but I could when I increased it to 3000 calories.

There's more to good health than just the types of food you eat.
Anyway... On topic...
I am prepping for a bodybuilding show. A colleague was asking about my diet, and said I must be avoiding bread because it was fattening. She was insistent that it did, and kept telling me so even when I said that no one food made you fat.0 -
