1.A calorie is a unit if measurement. So 100 cals of broccoli is gives same ENERGY as 100 cals of candy.
2. Carbs are essential part of the diet. They are not evil.
Feel free to add more mythbusters.

Carbs are nice to have but they're not essential (i.e. you won't get carb deficiency if you choose not to eat carbs).0

Have to disagree with your list op, and I say that as someone who is very 'pro-carb.'0

Carbs are important if you're active. Low carb is fine, no carb is not.0

Um, this is why low-carbers can't have nice things on this forum.0 -

So are you saying "carbs are not evil" is a myth, and thus carbs are evil?
Hope you know one of the reasons carbs aren't dietary essential is your body has pathways to produce them on its own, and it will. You'd die if your body couldn't.0 -

Perhaps in your rush to play the victim you didn't notice several "non-low" carbers pointing out that part of the OP wasn't correct0 -

How many carbs? Define active? Is running 60km a week (plus other activities) active? Or is that sedentary?
80 grams? 40% 100g? 55% 20g? 70%
What's "low carb"?

What I meant with essential is that carb, protein and fats form triad of our diet. How you fix your macros ratio is your personal preference. I am not either anti or pro low- carb . I just meant that statement for those who say carbs are evil.0

+1
Carbs aren't really essential. How many you eat is personal preference so long as you are getting adequate fat and protein and aren't over your calories.
It's true they aren't evil, though! ;-)0 -

Yeah seriously. I need to eat carbs, but that is me. From a nutrition standpoint only protein and some forms of fat are essential. Although fiber has numerous health benefits I'm not sure it is considered essential0
