So, I have tried low carb diets dozens of times...but each time I try it I get horrific rashes over my chest, back and arms! It is driving me crazy. Is it possible that some people just aren't able to eat low amounts of carbohydrates? Does anybody know what could cause the rash? My doctor couldn't explain it either - all blood results and other health checks came back fine!

Did they do an allergy test? Breaking out in a rash once you change up your intake for a diet doesn't sound normal. Did they consider that it may be something you're eating?

I got a rash when I tried supplementing with Niacin. A known side effect. So I stopped.

You can still lose weight while eating carbs.

When you eliminated carbs, what did you replace them with? It seems more likely that you replaced them with something you are sensitive to.

Allergic reactions are from something you are putting in to your diet, not something you are taking out. Is it possible you have an allergy to a protein?

You added something to your diet during the low carb periods. What was it?

I could think of two possibilities.

    1. Something you are adding in is what is causing the problem and you're reacting to it.
    2. You are having issues with oxalates and are suffering from oxalate dumping syndrome - rashes can be something that happens with this, and many high carb foods (potatoes, many whole grains, sweet potatoes) are high oxalate foods so going down in carbs can make you go down in these, and it can cause a reaction. There are a few websites on this - mostly out of Australia, as i recall.
