Are there any health care workers here? I'm physically and mentally exhausted by the end of my day. Any tips?

Leave work at work and come home with a clean slate! I know it's tough and with my little one at home I get worn down sometimes. I find a day every two weeks completely devoted to myself (no work, no child).. That helps me.

I tend to eat poorly because I'm always in a rush. Rush to eat at run out the door, get something in at lunch, then exhausted by the time I get home. Even when I plan meals, its hard to cut back on portions and keep energy. Maybe recipes or good products anyone has proven helpful?

I've been meaning to post something looking for others in the mental health field. I work every shift there is and if I work a double or a particularly hard overnight my eating goes out the window. Either I don't eat enough or I eat all junk.

For self care I spend switchback days (when I stay up after the overnight to get back to a regular schedule) with friends and make it my cheat day or we take the dogs to the park. I usually walk before work. I only walk after if I have someone else to walk with. If all else fails I do the minimum walk to get the dog to the lake and throw her frisbee. It's a pretty spot.

Otherwise I read and shower often and forgive myself an occasional marshmallow as long as I log it.

Oh. I forgot food. Those jar salads I pack ahead of a time if I'm realistic about knowing I won't wait until home. Or fruit in milk in the staff fridge for breakfast.

I work 2nd shift at the hospital as a housekeeper, I usually work 3-11:30. My problem is I come home so late and I'm tired, and hungry. Eating late is my biggest problem because I don't really eat much at work I don't really have an appetite. I don't really have much advice because I'm very new to this, but I'm starting off slow. Try to set your schedule in advanced to work out and make sure you stick to it. If it means doing some yoga before work, it might even put
you in a more relaxed mood. Also if you work at a hospital get a step tracker, I burned 700 calories the other day walking around the hospital! Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Those are the little things I'm
starting out at. Ummm...as for food I would try to eat more whole grains or something like peanuts, or
sunflower seeds, instead of chips or pop corn or snacks. something that will keep you fuller longer. Trail mix is good too.

Thank you. I'm pulling out my step tracker for tomorrow, because I do walk a lot. I use to do pilates, don't know why I stopped. I'm in the physical rehab area so it's constant mental stress, and frequent physical stress from assisting with balance or transfers. I found some trail mix type bars with whole grains and seeds in them.

Working two doubles a week( Monday and Wednesday 3pm-7am), always messes me up. Work is so busy don't always get a break for dinner or its rushed. Night shift usually very busy too so end up snacking. Hate it!
